    Hello all,

I am new here and found this site while searching for an answer to my problem. Glad to see there are people willing to assist others.

I just loaded Netscape 6.2 and set up my e-mail account. Here is my problem: I have a web site at www.warnerknives.com and my e-mail address is bob@warnerknives.com and I can get messages to come from the mail.warnerknives.com server to my local hard drive. I have to use my ISP server as my outgoing (SMTP) mail server. To do this I have to put mail.gte.net in as my outgoing server. This works just fine also. The problem I am having is that if I were to send a message to someone it looks like it came from 1warner@gte.net and not from bob@warnerknives.com

It is confusing to get messages from one source and reply to another. I just want everything to be bob@warnerknives.com if possible.

It worked just fine in Netscvape 4.7 but 4.7 kept locking up my machine when browsing so I upgraded.

Can this be fixed or should I go back to 4.7?

I really appreciate any assistance and also appreciate your running this board to help others.

Hi Bob, and welcome to the Forum,

If you are using Netscape 6.2.1 Messenger for business purposes, I would strongly recommend your using Communicator 4.79 for Mail & Newsgroups. The Netscape 6 Mail feature is ridden with problems, and not even close to a finished product. I encourage users to continue using Communicator for Mail.

Netscape 6.2.1 is not an upgrade for Communicator. It is a brand new product being developed from the ground up. Little more than a beta at present.

If you want to experiment with Netscape 6.2.1 you can download a 8.58 MB Standalone version from http://sillydog.org/narchive/sd701.html. This version has no Mail & Newsgroups, AIM/NIM, etc.

Maybe we could help you with your Communicator freezes?

    Ramona :D

    Hi Bob,

Welcome to the board. Wow, first post and you got the resident Netscape expert the first time! :D

I just upgraded, with Ramona's help (thanks!), to 4.78. I find it to be pretty stable, even with multiple screens open. I had 4.7 before and it also handled multiple screens without problems. The reason I upgraded was because of the phantom program that I got. Maybe this was the problem that you had. Sometimes when I closed Netscape, there would still be one running. Until I closed that one, the browser would run really slow or not at all.

As Ramona mentions, try 4.79 and see how it works. If the freezes continue, maybe we can help from there.

The moderator thing is FUN isn't it? ''
I am a moderator for a knifemaking forum and get stumped quite often.

I guess I will go back to the old version of Netscape. Maybe you people can help me stop the locking up of my machine.

It is frustrating to "Upgrade" and end up worse than you were to start.

I would convert to Explorer but don't know how to keep all of my mail and bookmark history. Can these be imported easily?

    How about Outlook Express?

Anyway, thanks for the replies and the help and also the welcome to the fourm.

    Bob,

First, I would stay away from Outlook Express. In my opinion, too vulnerable to viruses. Give Netscape 4.78 or 4.79 a try. I think you'll like it. Take a look at Ramona's site for more info on Netscape issues.

    Thanks Mike.

I will go through her site closely to see if I can find my answers there.

    Romana,

Looks like you spent a lot of time on your site, it looks great. Hopefully I am not the ONLY ONE with the problems I am having and you will have everything I need out there already.

It is a challenge, and the questions seem to get harder and harder! I think sometimes I learn more than the users with the problem!

Please feel free to post again with any questions, and if you do any Searches on the Forum, you will see that you are in good company, re: problems.

    Mike,

Good to hear that you upgraded with no problems. Wahoooooo! I've been wondering if all turned out well.
