I currently have an 80 gb "C" sata drive, and am in the process of upgrading to a 250 gb sata drive. I installed the new drive " G" , and copied "C" across to it useing Norton Ghost. All went fine. But when I exchanged drives "C" with "G ", the system still see's the original drives. How to I get the system to see the new 250 gb drive as "C" drive, and the old "C" drive as "G" drive. Many thanks.

Normally when you clone a drive you need to unhook the original. In theory both should be C drives and you can't have em hooked up at the same time.

Look in the BIOS/startup configuration for a setting for which HDD to boot to. This might be different to the boot sequence (floppy, CD, etc).

I have never use Ghost so not sure, if you only cloned the partition then very likely the hdd has never been made bootable, and possible does not even have a boot code in the MBR. Boot from XP's CD ,if you have one, get into the recovery console and run 'fixmbr'. If the partition is not marked bootable ,others will have to say how to set Active.

An easier solution is to use XXCLONE to do the cloning. It takes care of all the details and will switch the drive letters when you boot the clone. If you so desire, It will set up the dual boot and make the necessary boot.ini entries. That way you can leave both drives connected.

That is not to say you can't disconnect the old drive if you choose. XXCLONE will make the new drive stand-alone bootable as well.

It's the best free tool you'll find for the job.
