You can purchase a program like Acronis True Image and clone the drive...Won't have to reactivate.

I "manage" a computer at my flying club. It inherits hardware that have been disused. I have two hard disks in it. One is a clone of the other. The computer runs on one hard disk and the other sits disconnected waiting for disaster. A few weeks ago the "active" hard disk broke. I replaced it with the clone and was up and running within minutes. Yesterday, a new backup hard disk had been sourced and the system was cloned to it. Windows XP did not require reactivation but Norton Internet Security did.

Yes but my point is that, when cloning one hard disk to another, not only Windows XP may be requiring reactivation!

I have heard of people contacting msft "before new HD" and they let them use their original xp-cd to install on new HD ? I don't think that sounds like msft.
