I just got my credentials a few minutes ago, so you've never heard of me.
My name is Dave Binko, age 64, rural eastern Iowa home. I spent much of my professional life elsewhere, but here I began and here I belong. I am a true rookie, though I've owned a computer (glorified e-mail machine) for several years. I just got serious about three months ago. I don't mean to brag, but I've hard-crashed this computer twice so far this year, which is consistent
    with my "Rookie" descriptor.
I run Windows XP, SP3, on a two year old custom machine built for me by RJ Ender in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Not much status here, though, it was the way to get the most computer I could afford.
This computer lets me enjoy the easy-going rural life and still keep connected with the wider world. It keeps me off the streets and provides an alternative to cable TV. The dark side is that I like to go slumming on the 'net, so I'm a
    malware target of record.
That last is why I'm here. I have lots to learn generally, and I really must
    acquire some self-defense skills.

    Hello PeteC,
I am now well and truly a member, as my existence has been acknowledged. I like your skills assessment-much like mine, but I know enough to get into trouble FAST. The trick is getting back.
I am on Social Security Disability, and thus my financial resources are mighty thin. Ads make this site accessible to me, so I mind them less than most folks would. Most lives consist in self-promotion for the greater part: I'll accept yours if you'll accept mine.
I'm pleased I found and connected with a Windows-oriented organization and think the
association will work out well. Thanks for saying hello.
