New External Zip Drive Causing Problems.

Got a problem I don't know what to do about.

I just recently installed a Belkin 4 port USB hub, & installed an external Iomega Zip drive as well, attaching the Zip drive to that hub along with my existing PC camera. Followed the directions on both the Hub & the Zip drive for installation. Disabled the Iomega start up options & iomega icon displays, in msconfig.

Now, suddenly, I am getting a blue screen when I go to burn CD's. It burns the CD fine, but upon closing the CD, it throws the blue screen up saying:

Invalid VxD Dynamic Link Call From AFL(01) + 000019F6 to device "4103," Service 2
Your Windows Configuration is invalid. Run Windows Setup again to correct this problem.

To Continue using Windows press Y, To Exit Windows Press N.

I press Y & the CD burning program finishes & the CD is a good burn.

The blue screen also happened at the end of ripping a CD with MusicMatch, but upon pressing Y everything continued & the rips were good.

The first time this happened, I unplugged the Zip drive from the hub, but left the hub plugged in & burned another CD. All went well that time. No blue screen. So that meant it was the Zip drive, not the hub that was interfering.

I then went into Device Manager & found an Iomega conflict, so I unplugged the Zip Drive, removed the conflict, turned off the computer & plugged the Zip Drive back in. Then re-booted. The conflict did not re-appear, so I thought all was Ok. The Zip drive was working fine & so was everything else, until I tried to burn another CD. Got the same blue screen again.

There are not any files listed in the Version Conflict Manager. Registry Checker says there are no errors. Dr. Watson finds nothing unusual. SFC showed where in the Windows System folder the following VXD files had changed.
HwInfoD.vxd, voltrack.vxd, iomega.vxd.
I didn't know there was an Iomega VXD file still in the System folder leftover from when I had the internal drive. I thought I'd gotten rid of all the old files. If necessary, I can post the entire log file for this installation.

Remember, the Zip drive works fine. It is other programs that are having problems now, or Windows itself.

So how can I fix this without having to Re-install Windows, or unplug the Zip Drive everytime I want to burn a CD. Any ideas anyone?

 

Since no one seemed to have any ideas of how to help me, I will post the fix.

If anyone else has this problem, go to the Iomega web site & download the lastest Software version for your particular Zip drive. Uninstall previous software. Hunt up "all" leftover files & delete them. There will be quite a few. Clean the registry of all Iomega references. There was a pot full of registry references left in there.

I used "find files & folders," "RegDetective" & the "SFC" logs to do my cleaning. Believe me it took all of them to hunt it all down too.

It seems the software that came with the drive was conflicting with one of my burner programs & with MusicMatch. Why? I have no idea, but cleaning it off & installing the updated software seems to have done the trick. Everybody seems to be happy now, & that makes me happy.
