Several weeks ago I was infected with the 'Elite-bad-stuff'.
Noahdfear helped me clean up my PC and the problem was solved. Thanks Dave! :)

This morning the same 'Elite-bad-stuff' came up, but I was able to fix it based on Dave's recent instructions. ;)

BTW, at that time I had run the Adaware I had, which I was a very recent update.

This morning, after eveything was runnin OK, I learned that there was a new version of Adaware, so I updated. Now I have Adaware-SE... and I ran it.

First thing I noticed is that while the former Adaware looked at some 45,000 objects, this version was well over 52,000.

Then, when it was all done, would you believe that it found 243 objects? Many had the name "Elite" and or "Litium" of something like that. Of these, over 85 were programs (Edited: no, these were 'files')!!!  (I didn't get the final number before the screen changed to fix them.)

Could some of these have been there from long before and yet not cause any perceptible problems?

Also, Adaware 'quarentines' these objects. How about just getting rid of them?

First off, I apologize for not making sure you already had the current version when we cleaned up. Not unusual for left over files or registry entries to be found with a newer, updated version. If you ran the MS AntiSpyware app, you would probably find even more, as it has a larger database of registry entries for crapware. Alot of those registry entries would also be found with a good registry cleaner.

It's usually recommended to let items removed be quarantined, then just clean out the quarantines now and then. On a rare occasion, something might be removed erroneously and may need to be put back. If you immediately delete everything removed, there will be no backups. To stop auto-quarantine, open Ad-aware and click Start, then check Use custom scanning options and click Customize. Click General, uncheck Automatically quarantine objects....and click proceed. While you're customizing, click Scan within Archives and all options under memory & registry in scanning section, and Move deleted files to recycle bin in advanced section, if not already selected. Click proceed to save these "custom" scan options.
