    Hi,
I have two computers running Windows 2000 linked up via Ethernet LAN.

I have trouble with the master machine looking at the slave even tho they are in the same workgroup. I haven't used domain names.

The printer hooked up to the master machine will print from either computer OK.

On the slave machine it takes forever (40sec) to find the master using search in My Network places and returns with The network path was not found.

In the Computers near me it also takes some time and returns with Workgroup is not accessible, The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

I followed the procedure in the Windows 2000 quickstart guide for networking a peer-to-peer system but seem to have some troubles.

What do I need to check or change to get the system working???

    thanks in anticipation...

    What protocol(s) running?

Do both PCs have the logon from the other included in Users? If so, do the user accounts belong to groups with permissions to do the things you want?

And usually much better to map a drive to any resources you plan to routinely use on the other PC. If you have admin rights on the other PC, you can map to the admin share(s) of C$, etc. and have the whole drive to play with.

I guess I'll throw in my seemingly standard comment about name resolution :

Have you configured a HOSTS and/or LMHOSTS file for the computers ?

If the answer is a blank look:) then post back and we'll go through it - its a good idea even if Newt's excellent (as usual) suggestion of rights problems clears up your initial issue
