My laptop and desktop are linked together thru a wireless router. I'm able share the printer, however , I'm unable to share the files from the desktop to the laptop. I can go into the desktop and see everything from the laptop, including user accounts, however, from the laptop i can only share the printer and see no user accounts on the desktop.
I'm using vista on both pcs. I'm new at this, but thought i'd experiment to see if i could learn more about networking. All help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mark

Resolved after matching amin accounts, passwords on both machines, disabling firewalls, rebooting, checking that shared setting matched on both machines, then rebooting
    Thanks

    Hi Mark,
good to hear, sorry I've only just read your post, sometimes fiddleing around with the basic settings is a good learning curve, I remember doing the same a few years back before the kids started moving out & i tried the Bluetooth way, the router way (wired) & finally started getting into WiFi, Now I have it all set up so when the kids come home they don't have a problem connecting to the Internet or the Home Network.
Disabling the firewall isn't recommended, adding the particular computer in to permissions is more advisable.
Ensuring that the individual computers have different names ie:marks-DTPC (desktop) or marks-LTPC (laptop),
Assigning a network name and sticking to it on both or more if add more computers to the network, an incorrect spelling will leave you outside the loop. Making sure the files/Folders you wish to share on each computer is set for sharing, or you will only get the basics.
Sign on using user password or not (Each machine should use a different password for security reasons), turning network discovery on or not, the last 2 you seem to have sorted out.
Welcome to the fun of networking
So far I have XP, Vista & Win7 all capable of sharing on the same network all via wireless

    Regards Jac
