Have 2 computers tied together via KVM switch. One is OS XP & one is 98. Have cable IPS & router w/h firewall block. When I do share on 98 computer I get a message that says files can be viewed by others on Internet. My question is: I have McAfee firewall & Ghost Surf privacy block on both computers. Will this keep the files from being viewed by others?

If you have a hardware router with filters, you may be protected there. You can be protected with the firewall software that you have on each system.

The question is do you have ports 135-139 and 445 blocked for everybody except the systems on your LAN?

Do you have a strong password set on your shares and are your shares set up so that only people who authenticate to your systems can access the shares?

Is the guest account on WXP disabled?
