McAfee continues to give me popups about "intruders" on my wireless network. I can see IP addresses with a lot of them, but don't know why/how they got there. Some are just with names.....

Can someone explain this to me? I don't want anyone else on my wireless network other than hubby when he is on line.

    Thank you.

Have you enabled the encryption (WEP/WPA) on your wireless router to prevent anyone else from logging onto your network?

Yes, I think I've run a couple down which are my router, my printer and my camera. I have no idea what the others are. It looks like one shows up 4 times at the same time! I think I'm gonna delete the dups, yes?

Elaine can you post exact contents in the pop-ups you're receiving, you can hide IP addresses if you're concerned but please post all other information.

That's what I just noticed. I can hide, but can't delete them. I don't guess it matters, no?

I meant in your post (eg, type xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx instead of eg 192.168.0.1) if you're concerned, but please post the contents of the pop-ups so we can have an idea of what you're seeing and what's happening.

They may or may not be actual intruders.

McAfee will classify any network request as an intrusion attempt.

For example, any Windows wireless computer will send out what's known as Probe Requests even when already connected to a wireless network, probing for available wireless access points. Windows will do this every 30 or 60 seconds or so.

Even if a computer with a wifi adapter is connected via wire, Windows will still probe for available wlans so long as the adapter is enabled. Windows is "just looking ", that's all, but network security apps will classify it as an intrusion attempt.

File & Printer Sharing can trigger these alerts as well.

If McAfee has a feature to export the intrusion log then post its contents here, or if possible, copy+paste it.
