In the past, I successfully used a power line to connect my laptop to my network via Ethernet. I've been away for a few months and turning the laptop on today, it wasn't been able to make a connection via Ethernet. When checking the network adapter, it tells me 'Network Cable Unplugged" and then 'Unidentified Network'. The laptop has no problem with Wi-Fi.

In addition to the laptop problem, I successfully used power lines to connect video players to three TVs. Now these no longer can find my network. I use a WD MY Cloud as a server for the media players.

Running Windows 10 but not yet installed the Anniversary Update.

I guess I dont get the powerline. But if you have both NICs enabled (wifi and wired) aren't they fighting each other for an IP address from your router?

Hi buzzmag. Have you tried unplugging both power line adapters and plugging them back in to reset the network connection? Have you also tried rebooting your router?

After a few hours of making sure my system and network were set up as they should be, it came to me that the operation of the laptop and video players were essentially caused by the same problem. I had no problem using Ethernet on my desktop, so why not on the other equipment? I should have realized that the 'Network Cable Unplugged' message was telling me the network itself was fine but the non-connect was due to a hardware problem. Turns out that the powerline connected to my router failed. I replaced it and I'm back in business.

Thanks to all for their suggestions.
