I have a defunct network bridge connection I cannot delete.

I deleted the two devices before the bridge, so now when I try to delete the remaing bridge I get an "unexpected error" message.

More irritatingly I cannot remove the network connection in the system tray with its "network cable is unplugged" message.

    Any ideas gratefully received!!

Have you tried doing this in device manager or the Add/Remove Hardware wizard? Or uninstall/reinstall the network adapter.

    Thankyou for the reply Unixfan.

Yes, I have tried both to know no avail.

I know it is hardly life threatening but it is irritating.

Try booting to safe mode, removing all the networking stuff that will go away, removing any modem entries, shutting down, removing the NIC(s) and restarting in safe mode.

Device manager shouldn't show any of the NIC related stuff any longer and any that remains (modem-related or whatever) should be willing to go away.

Shut down again, replace the NIC(s) and start back up in normal mode. Set networking up again and you should have only what you want.

Excellent. Some times you just gotta be real firm and stern with the little beasties. :)
