There has been a lot of confusion on this. It is my understanding that any: username@netscape.net will be accessible as username@aim.com.
In other words although the username and password will be the same, there will be no more @netscape.net. How long will the resending of @netscape.net mail will last, I have not been determine.
The biggest difference will be that while a @netscape.net address could be set up in the NS6/7 mail client as an IMAP account, it could not be set up in other mail clients. @aim.com can be set up in any mail client as an IMAP account.
The server settings are: pop.aim.com, port 143 to receive. To send: smtp.aim.com, port 587. Such port is used for authenticated mail, to reduce spam, I guess.
All this stuff is in the link provided by Ramona, but I thought that some highlights are needed, because there is a lot out there.

I'm with you Westside, confused in how this works.
I have imap.aim.com set up in TB. It runs fine with TLS / port 143 or SSL / port 993. When I opened this account (via browser Web site view) up a number of months ago, site automatically set up my username as bluechipwi (my netscape username), and assigned the new domain name as @aim.com. I don't know what to expect in August. Will my TB / IMAP account using my bluechipwi / domain name aim.com interface with my bluechipwi / domain name netscape.net mail web mail account. I'm confused, will have to wait until August 19th and see what happens.

If you are confused, think about the confusion caused when an e-mail is sent to username@aol.com. Presumably if there is an @aol.com account, @netscape.net mail should go after Aug 19 to the @aol.com account with the same username.
To make things more interesting mail sent, mistakenly, to username@aol.com is received at username@aim.com. I tested this, and it is true. A reply gets to the original sender, but, nowhere is either the aol.com or aim.com address. The reply looks like it was sent to itself. Same thing in View|Message source.
It seems that the aol or aim server relays the mail, but takes no responsibility.
Can we see spam on the horizon?

My concern is my Netscape account is my "trash account ". I do not read anything that comes to this account, everything is deleted. My ISP email account is for family and friends and MyRealBox account is for forums and subscriptions. When I created / opened my @aim.com account, it was for IMAP and Spam testing purposes. Testing limited to "not using the account" and seeing if Spam arrives (is AOL selling my email address test). If Netscape "forwards" all my Netscape email activity, this will trash my @aim.com account. Will @Netscape.net be in the header to be used as a filter? Does anyone know how long AOL will "forward" Netscape domain email to aim.com accounts??

Nothing has been said, but if the netscape.net and aim.com accounts have the same username, the aim.com will become your trash account. I have the same username for both, and, I, never got any spam in the aim.com account, while some spam had arrived at the netscape.net account. I am not doing anything, for now, and since myrealbox account is constantly maxing out on account of spam, I will have to start looking around. May be gmail.
But, we have about one month.

FWIW, I get very little spam in my Gmail account, compared to Yahoo mail, which is almost as bad as Hotmail used to be.

Thanks, Jim. I will look into Gmail.
As for spam, it depends on how the account is used, and the type of username. I have been doing ok if I did not use an account into newsgroups, or, I faked the address (allowable at many newsgroups), and the username was considerably different from any other I have had.My Yahoo username has never produced any spam, but Hotmail which used an username similar to another one @aol.com got destroyed in short time.

That could explain a lot, as I tend to use JSS3rd in all my accounts.

The very first username I used was "fperini ". I was too lazy to even think about a change of passwords. I had an @aol.com address, with that username, and within two years, I was able to accept mail for only twenty trusted friends. About the only good feature of AOL was that you could reject everyone except for a few people. In the meantime, I got an @home.com address. In two months, 90% of my e-mail was spam. But @home went under, and I got a @cox.net address, same username. They figured that one out in no time. I was getting so much junk mail which address to usernames which contain also usernames with the same four letters as my username. It was obvious that they very just guesses, but I was getting hit, anyway.
The nonsense stopped when I went to computer generated usernames, beside specialized username (for only one or two types of mail). That is why I have somewhere between 10-12 active usernames. If they like toplay games, let them do. Besides, cox server based spam control is quite good. But, i had to drop my fperini username.
