What is the relationship of Netscape to Mozllla? Can Mozilla be used without Netscape or should both be active. How about Firefox & Thunderbird? Are these both recommended? How does one utilize them? How do these programs interact or relate?

    Hi Condoor,

Is this a test, or are you writing a school paper? :D

Netscape is Mozilla. Netscape 7.2 will be based on the Mozilla 1.7.1 code, just as Netscape 7.1 was based on Mozilla 1.4 code. The differences in the two browsers is that you can't access the proprietary Netscape Webmail from within Mozilla Mail & Newsgroups. Of course you can always use Netscape Webmail via the web interface from any browser. The other difference is that Mozilla doesn't have Netscape Instant Messaging or any other AOL features. You do not have to use both browsers, as they are totally independent of each other

Netscape, Mozilla, Thunderbird, and Firefox can be run simultaneously with no ill effects. In fact I have both Mozilla and Netscape 7.1 open now. As long as you create unique Profiles for Mozilla and Netscape, there is no problem at all in running them together. Firefox and Thunderbird have separate Profile directories than Netscape and Mozilla, so there is no problem there either.

Firefox is a standalone browser in beta development at the present time. However, users report that the current Version 0.9.2 is quite stable. Thunderbird is a standalone Mail program also in beta development, and at Version 0.7.2, which is also reported to be stable.

The choice seems to be whether you prefer a suite (browser + mail & newsgroups) or standalone browser and mail.

Let us know if you have more questions.

    Hi Antony,

Thanks for reminding me of your page! I really was just teasing Condoor about writing a paper, as he too is a "mature" user. ;)
