I used Netscape Comm. for years and it was allways my preference over I.E., but after installing win2000 pro, after visiting just several sites and some of their links, I would get this Netscape popup message that would say something like; Netscape Communicator has encounter a problem or error and will be shutdown. A few seconds later I'm back to desktop.
I tried various versions 4.75 thru 4.79 with all the same results.
Finally, I tried the new 6.2 and this problem did not occur, but I
quickly uninstalled it after I discovered that it has some kind of embedded sharing code, whereby, when I saved as or downloaded something, and while off-line could not view it without NC 6.2 re-connecting on-line. Now, to me thats privacy invasion.
Anyway, I would be grateful for any info you may have regarding the NC shutdown errors.
    Thanks,

    Hi tiple,

In order to help with your problem, could you be more specific on the shut down errors? Were they: Netscape has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL, or Netscape has caused an error in NETSCAPE.EXE, etc.

    Let us know,

    Ramona :D

    For Netscape Communicator 4.7x
I recommended you try Netscape Communicator 4.79
(at least, you will need 4.76 or later)

    NOW, very important!!!!
You will need to install Netscape Communicator in Windows 2000 Professional by Admin and the poweruser that is going to use it.
Also, you will need to enable the user have abaility to Read/write the nsreg.dat found within the WINNT (or Windows) directory.

This problem is easy to solve. Give everyone read/write permission on this file.

A detailed (and complicated) method is available in http://duke.usask.ca/~uhl/netscape/

    Ramona & Antony

    Thanks for your replies.

Antony, I'll follow your advice as best I can.

Ramona, No, there was never a message like error in Kennel32.DLL etc., Just that Netscape C. has encountered an error or problem and will be shut down. You will have to restart the program - end of message. And, automatically, I'm sent back to desktop.

    Thanks again,
    tiple
