    Hi,

I use Netscape 7.2 and SeaMonkey 1.0.7. I switch between the two regularly for testing purposes.

I've noticed that when I switch, I don't get my Home Page (Google) but instead a redirect to either NS or SM update page.

I've also noticed that in about:config, there's about 6 listings for http:// (etc.) NS and SM. However, the listings are for "throbber" applications. Which, I think, have to do with the Logo's for NS andf SM?

There's one place in about:config that lists:
    update_notification.provider.0.datasource | Default | String |
http://mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/releases/updates/en-us.rdf. And in NS there's the same listing; just a different URL.

I don't want the Updates Pages coming up everytime I switch. Will changing the "updates_notifications, etc., to http://www.google.com do the trick?

The reason I'm not just changing it is because of the .RDF (Resource Description Framework) extension and I don't know if it will cause problems with my browsers by changing it. So, I thought I'd ask first before I got into trouble.

    Any thoughts?

    jpChris

    Chris,

The setting in about:config for the Home Page is: browser.startup.homepage In the Value you would enter http://www.google.com/

  3. to hide this advert.

    Hi Ramona,

My browser.startup.homepage is already Google, it's the overrides that are bugging me when I switch between NS & SM.

Also, I found 2 more listings besides the one I posted:

    browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone user set string rv:1.7.2,
    browser.startup.homepage_override.1 default boolean true.

One of the 3 listings has to be the culprit, I think.

Do you think setting "rv:1.7.2" to Google would stop it? Or setting "override.1" to False, would do it? Or, just deleting these?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Chris,

I wouldn't edit either of the settings.

Did you create separate Profiles for Netscape 7 and SeaMonkey?

You can run both browsers concurrently, so there is really no need to shut down one in order to switch to the other.

Separate profiles are the way to go. Talking about testing purposes, I have three Firefox/Thunderbird (six programs in all), three Seamonkeys, and Netscape7.2. All have their own profiles, and I have little to think about them. Each one minds its own business, except for Firefox3.0a2 which has a design problem.

    Hi Ramona,

I didn't create a new Profile for SM. And, when I'm using SM or NS, when I try to open either when I'm running the other, it won't let me. It says, "Profile already in use . . . ".

The reason I only use one Profile is because of the Mail Client. If I'm in SM and DL my mail, sure as shootin', I'll be in NS looking for the e-mail I DL'ed; or vice versa.

By the by, SeaMonkey installed seamlessly and I'm starting to use it more and more. I never thought I'd say this, being a diehard NS user, but I like SM.

And, Westside, SIX BROWSERS!?! You have six or more Profiles, correct? When you're using one and you open another browser, does it ask for your Profile first? Do you ever get redirected to the NS or SM "update" page instead of your Home Page?

I'd really like to know what's causing the redirect: Especially the ".mstone" thingy. Do you think the builders of Mozilla might be able to shed a little light on this?

    Chris,
Then that is your problem. You must create separate profiles for each browser, as not doing so will not only corrupt the single Profile you are sharing, and you risk losing everything, including Mail.

I don't see the Profile Manager, unless I make a mistake. Ramona has a nice writeup about by-passing the profile manager . That's how I keep my ducks in order.
