    When I do the following:
(1)First select the JPEG file you want to open. While the SHIFT key is pressed, right click the mouse on the JPEG picture.
(2)From the pop-up menu that appears, select the option "Open with... ".
(3)Select the program:NETSCP6 and click Ok.
(4)Netscape then will open the JPEG file you want to open.

NS 6.2 does not open up the file but instead says it cannot locate file. Any help on this?

    Hi deanst2,

Have you ever installed Netscape 6.0 on your system?

If so, that may be your problem, and you will need to run a small Netscape uninstall patch, to restore file associations.

Read here: A Patch for Reassociating JPEG Files After Uninstalling Netscape 6

The patch can be downloaded from the above listed site.

Post back and let us know if this helped.

    deanst2,

O.K., just trying to cover all the bases.

Which browser is your default, Communicator 4.78 or Netscape 6.2?

Also, are you talking about opening a jpg file on your HD, or while you're online? What I'm trying to get at, is which program do you normally use to open this type of file. Do you have an image viewer program on your system?

You really don't need to use a browser to open these files, and there is a great little image viewer, IrfanView which many people use. It's freeware, only 798 KB, and getting better each version.

    Thanks,

    Ramona :D

    Thanks Ramona.
Actually, my default browser is IE5 but I like to use NS at times and when I had version 4.78 I was able to open up jpeg selectively as I described in the original post. Not sure why I can do this now with Netscape 6. If I want to make it the default method of opening jpegs I can do that in the settings but I don't want to go that route. Any other ideas?

    deanst2,

    What OS are you using?

I don't have a fix right now, but I will check around and see what I can find.

No, I definitely wouldn't make NS6 the default program for opening jpg files. You didn't say whether or not you have an image viewer?

    deanst2,

I would install IrfanView, and make it your image viewer. If you still have problems, try saving the JPG image as a .bmp file.

That's really the only suggestion I can give you at this point. Netscape 6.x has very few FAQ, and the Help site is sorely lacking for NS 6. It really is a handicap when trying to help.

:) TY for your help Ramona; I've never used an image viewer and am not sure of what the upside is of using one instead of, let's say, IE5?

The reason I wanted to use NS is because for some reason the IE5 opens up my jpegs not in a maximized window; once I maximized it IE5 will remember that particular file and re-open it maximized; but then if I choose another file it opens it non-maximized. Annoying.

    Hi deanst2,

You might check the IE Forum for some help with maximizing your IE Windows. I have seen a suggested Registry Edit which supposed fixes this problem.

Netscape is not an image viewer, as is IE. Having an image viewer enables you to open any jpg anywhere, any time. IrfanView will also edit photo's, is an MP3 Player, captures screen shots, etc., etc., etc.

Are you using Windows XP? If so, it isn't necessary to hold down the shift key when you right click on the file.
