I would like to remain using Netscape 4.78 as my mail client and intergrate 7.x as my browser. I am able to get a mail to: link in 7 to open the correct mail application. I cannot, however, get a link sent to me to open in Netscape 7.0.

Is there a registry hack that can facilitate this. I have access to 4.5 mission control but cannot see a way to set it with this.

    Any advise would be great.

    Welcome to the Forum, Ross!

    Hi Ross,

    Let me clarify here:

when running 7.0 you can right click mail:to and Messenger will open

when running 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups, hyperlinks in received email open in 4.78 Messenger, and not in 7.0 Mail?

I have an older PC set up with 4.79 as the Default Browser, and 7.0 with Mail & Newsgroups. As you state (if I am understanding correctly) mail:to opens 4.79 Messenger. However, hyperlinks in 7.0 email open in 7.0 browser.

    Hi Ramona,

ALmost. What I would like to do is use 4.7x as the default mail client. I would like to install netscape 7.x browser only. If a web link is sent to a user, messenger 4.7x will open it in the Netscape 7.x browser.

Essentially I would like Netscape 7.x browser to replace the 4.79 version. I understand that it is impossible to uninstall 4.79 browser but that is the end that I would like to achieve.

Thanks for any advise that you can give.

    Ross

Alternatively. Is there a mission control application for Netscape 7? The CCK does not have the fully functionality of the old MCD.

    Hi Ross,
I see now what you want to accomplish, and it is not doable. :(

I would suggest installing either the Streamline Version from SillyDog701 or the Compact Version from Holger Metzger's site, then use 7.01 for your default browser, with Mail & Newsgroups.

Netscape 7.01 will automatically convert your preferences from Netscape 4.x. Once installed, create a new Profile for 7.01. Then you can run both browsers side by side with absolutely no conflicts.

There is no Mission Control for Netscape 7.x.

Thanks. This is pretty puch what I have discovered. Are you aware of where netscape stores its ldap information. We run an ldap with custom fields. I suspect that Netscape imbeds this as I can find no trace of it in the registry. prefs.js stores the server but not the fields.

    Thanks

    Hi Ross,

UI settings are scattered in Netscape 7.01. In C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape
I found two nsldap dll files.

    In C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Components
I found two ldap dll files.

If you could send me a Private Message, I can put you with someone who can be more helpful (on another Forum). I know nothing about programming, so am of limited help.

    Thanks!
