    Hi all,

I had to reinstall XP on my laptop, so before doing that I copied over data,
under ApplicationData, which also included the Mozilla directory. From the earlier posts on this board, I believe I have all the data/files needed to do a transfer to netscape mail. I did use netscape mail earlier also, however I do not remember what version it was 7.1 or 7.2.
Now I am using 7.2 and I followed step I read on this board, about creating a new profile and replacing file under the .slt directory with the files from old .slt directory.
Well this allowed the netscape mail to recognize that there are a few directories, however no messages are shown. I also unchecked the read permissions from the directories. The lowest files (Inbox and inbox.msf and that level) didn't seem to have that changed to read, so I didn't have to change that.
Is there something else I am missing?
    Thanks for all the help,
    Sameer

    Welcome to the Forum, sameerv!

    sameerv,

    Do this:

    Close Netscape

If the backup is from Netscape 7.2, then when you copied the backup *.slt files from the *.slt folder to the newly created *.slt folder, that should have done the trick.

Did you delete the contents of the new Profile's *.slt folder, and then allow the contents to be overwritten, or replaced, with the contents of the backup *.slt folder?

I'm not quite clear, as in one place you said folder, and another place you said files. If you copied the *.slt folder from the backup, and replaced the newly created *.slt folder, then unless you changed the name of the backup *.slt folder to that of the newly created *.slt folder, it won't work.

However, if the backup is from Netscape 7.1, then the transfer is different:

    First:
    Close Netscape
Rename the existing Mozilla folder to ZMozilla
Copy the backup of the Mozilla folder, and paste it into the Applications Data folder.

    Next:
Open Netscape, the Profile data should be recognized.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Ramona

    hallulujah !

Thanks Ramona. Apparently the backup was 7.1. In addition to your steps, I just had to delete the profiles that were created earlier, so as to start afresh.
When I did exactly as you told me for 7.1 backup, it gave me an error saying could not find the folder which has the profile default. So presumably it looks up folders not only by name basis (?). So I went back to the profile manager and deleted the default profile without deleting the files. This worked.
