Netscape mail and address book gone

I signed on to Netscape 7.02 one day and a new wizard came on welcoming me to Netscape. I had to start all over and 1200 e-mails and 1 address book were gone. I can see the file folders with the info but when I go to open them with Netscape 7.1, it opens as just one huge page with lots of words and symbols. I really want to salvage some of my old messages and then get rid of Netscape altogether.

 

What email client are you moving too? Your new email client may have an import function, which would be an easy way to solve your problem.

If you choose to stay with netscape, you should be able to copy your mail files from the old mail directory to the new. Depending on how much new mail you have, you may wish to rename the old mail files before copying them to avoid any loss of mail. A backup of your profile directory before attempting anything is recommended. The above should be done with netscape closed.

Missing Netscape Mail

I was still trying to use Netscape since I upgraded to 7.1. I tried importing my messages from Outlook Express but everytime I search for the profile, it says there are no files. I have also tried backing up my profile and that doesn't seem to work either.

 

There is good news and bad news...

The good news:

Converting your netscape 7 mail to OE is possible.

The bad news:

You need to install netscape 4.7x/4.8 or Eudora to convert your mail, then OE should be able to import it.

However, since I do not use (or possess) OE or netscape for mail, I have not tested it and cannot say how well it works. You are of course, free to wait for another opinion .

Additionally, some users claim that Dawn is good for converting address books. Again, I haven't tested this, since I have no need for it.
