    I have the classic "Netscape 7 looses mail account" problem, with a bad twist.

    After getting the new email account wizard pop up, the advice is to first proceed by opening an account. However, after entering my email account info, it says I already have that account, and to enter another one. But it let's me canel (finally), which I do, and mail starts arriving (although corrupted somewhat). I cannot send anything. I am ready to give and go to Outlook after using Netscape for 14 years.

    Please help.

    Welcome to the Forum, Walnut!

    Hi Walnut,

    In what way is the arriving mail corrupted?

    Have you tried deleting the MSF files in your Mail account? If not do this:

    Close Netscape & Quick Launch
    Open Windows Explorer
    Navigate to your Mail Account Folder which is located here:
    <path>/Application Data/Mozilla/Profiles/profilename/*.slt/Mail/mail.isp.net

    Delete all files with an MSF extension
    Do NOT delete the files without the MSF extension, as they contain your Mail
    Open Netscape, and compact your folders.

    If this doesn't help, then move your Sent Mail files to a temporary folder, then delete both
    and Sent.msf. Restart Netscape...
    Did this work, can you send now?

    If not:

    Check the SMTP server settings for each Mail Account, found under:
    Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Outgoing Server (SMTP Settings) | Advanced
    Ensure there is no blank space that highlights, if you click on the blank space above the SMTP server names, or below the SMTP server names
    Remove any duplicate server entries. See Screen Shot

    Next:
    Highlight each Mail Account name in the left panel of your Mail window
    In the right panel select: "View settings for this Account "
    Click the Advanced button. Ensure that the setting is: "Always use Default server "
    For Mozilla 1.6, 1.7b, and 1.8a, highlight "Server Settings" to access the Advanced button. See Screen Shot

    You might also try this:

    Add a fake SMTP server and make it the default. This will allow you to delete the problematic SMTP Server. Remove them all, and re-start Netscape. Then re-enter the real server data, and make the "real server" the default, then remove your fake server.

    Check your "prefs.js" file. Do your entries look similiar to this:

    user_pref( "mail.smtpservers ", "smtp1,smtp1,smtp1,smtp2 ");
    Remove the duplicates in the "smtp1,smtp1,smtp1,smtp2" string so it will look like this:
    user_pref( "mail.smtpservers ", "smtp1,smtp2 ");
    Close Netscape before editing the "prefs.js" file.

    Let us know if this helped.

    Ramona
