    My system is running XP. I'm using netscape 7.2. My problem is when I close netscape it creates a bookmark on my desktop. If I delete the bookmark it wipe all of my bookmarks in netscape. I must have messed some for setting up. Can anyone tell me what I did to make this happen. Thank-You zek

    You call it a bookmark, what properties does it have (right click on the icon|properties). What type of icon is it? I have heard of strange behaviors, but this is new.

    HTML Document

    I right clicked on this icon, went to properties, clicked it and it shows that it is a HTML Document.

    That's the correct format for the bookmarks. Why it would show on the desktop, it beats me, if it controls all the bookmarks. I know that, you must make a real effort to get a bookmark for the site which you visit on the desktop.
    I would just ignore it, and see what happens if you leave the file.

    Guys, just throwing out some thoughts .. (I do not use Netscape 7.2)
    Does Netscape have "save views" (open URL's) at close option?
    Some "Tab extensions" have this option also.
    Does not explain why it would corrupt/wipe out "Bookmarks" if bookmark is deleted from Desktop.

    zek,

    Take a look at your "prefs.js" file. It's located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt

    Look for lines that start with:
    user_pref( "browser.bookmarks.......

    Do you see anything unusual? Unless you are using another location for your Bookmarks, the line should look like this:

    user_pref( "browser.bookmarks.added_static_root ", true);

    If not, could you copy, and then post the lines here?

    Thanks!

    P.S. One other question: are you using a Theme other than the default, or any extensions?
