Netscape Communicator 4.61 won't shut down

Hi. I am stymied by this problem. When I shut down the browser it really is NOT shut down. I have to CTRL+ALT DELETE to manually shut it down or my puter wont shut down either. Any advice? I know I should upgrade but would really like to know the solution. Thanks.

Welcome to the board! I had a similiar problem with 4.7. I was getting the Phantom process and had to Ctrl-Alt-Delete to close Netscape. I was, however, able to shut down before doing this.

I would suggest upgrading to 4.78 or 4.79. The problem has been fixed, for the most part, with these versions. I have only had to CAD once since upgrading. Here is a brief explanation of the Phantom Process. Here is the instructions to upgrade your browser. Make sure to back up your profiles before starting. Upgrading should take care of your problem.

You might want to upgrade 4.61, as it is afflicted with the The Brown Orifice Vulnerability.

I think you might be pleased with the performance of Netscape 4.78/79 as Mike suggested.
