Hi Ramona, this is my first post so please bear with me.
I am running Win XP/IE6 and recently installed Netscape v.7.0 from the CD. I imported my favorites and all seemed OK for a few days. Now my bookmarks have disappeared. I tried importing them again from IE but no go. If I click on Bookmarks/manage bookmarks/tools/
import/netscape/bookmarks. my favorites appear in 'bookmarks for default' and are available, for this session ONLY. If I close netscape I have to go through the routine again. Please help a netscape newbie...rmhc...

    Welcome to the Forum, rmhc!

    Hi rmhc,

Have you tried Exporting from IE? Perhaps this is what you have done, but if not:

    Open IE
    File | Import/Export

Export your Favorites to your Desktop, a file is created.

In Netscape, click on Manage Bookmarks | Tools | Import

Select the file on your desktop exported by IE, all your favorites are
now imported, they are in the folder set as "New Bookmark Folder ",
    usually, My Documents.

Select all IE favs (SHIFT+click) and drag them to the regular N7
    bookmarks.

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

    Hi mhc,

Good going! O.K., it isn't hard at all, really just a drag and drop.

    Open Bookmarks | Manage Bookmarks
Highlight the IE Imported Favorites Folder.
Hold down the Shift Key and use the LEFT mouse button to drag the IE
Favorites Folder to the Netscape Bookmarks
Drag it to whatever folder you wish, within the Netscape Bookmarks.
You can even drop it into your Personal Toolbar.

I don't have any Favorites, so couldn't recreate exactly what I'm trying to guide you to do...

Once you have your Bookmarks in place, then backup your Profiles Folder. It's a good idea to do that on a fairly frequent basis.

Let us know if you need more help.

    bookmarks

Hi Ramona, I am sorry I did not get back to you earlier but was away for a few days. Re my bookmarks I have tried everything you suggested and cannot get the bookmarks to stay in the folder. If I close netscape they are gone!!!! When I open 'manage bookmarks the favorites folder is not visible. I have to go to manage bookmarks/tools/import. the file appears and will stay as long as I do not close the program. If i close manage bookmarks ,then close netscape they will be gone when i reopen netscape. Something is clcearly wrong but i don't know what?????

    Hi rmhc,

I don't know why your Bookmarks/Favorites aren't retained from session to session.

I created a couple of Favorites in IE. I then exported them from IE to the Desktop. Within the Export Wizard I selected the option:
"Export to a File or Address "
    I then selected "Desktop "
I did note that the Favorites on the Desktop were named bookmark.htm, which is the Communicator Bookmark file format.

I then opened the Netscape Bookmark Manager, Imported the Favorites from the Desktop. The two folders I imported were listed at the very bottom of the Bookmark list. I opened and closed NS numerous times, and the imported folders were retained.

    Open the Bookmark Manager
    Highlight the imported Favorites
    Click on View
Select: Set as Personal Toolbar Folder

Perhaps this will save the Favorites permanently.
