Netscape and MSN RealPlayer

I am new to Netscape and am wondering how to view videos that require MSN Video Player. Whenever I try to launch a video a screen opens asking me to download and install MSN Video even though I already have it installed. Does anybody know how to get around this problem?

It is possibly a plugin so that NS knows to use the MSN Video Player. What happens if you say go ahead with the download?

Bmoore is correct. Give a website (URL), so that we can try it.
There are some pretty dumb things going on on the web, and this could be one of them. They may require a special link to MSN Video. Try to reinstall it.

 

I tried reinstalling MSN Video and it installed successfully, still can't play any
videos while using Netscape. For example I go to the MSNBC home page and
try to launch any video and I get a help screen that asks if I want to download MSN video. The player works ok otherwise, and I have no problem if I use
IE. So I am thinking it is something needed for Netscape that I don't have setup
correctly.

I tried all I could, and my conclusion is that you must use three different applications:Win Media Player probably 7.1 or higher
Macromedia Flash 7
Allow popup for the site
Internet Explorer 6

I have no problem with the first three, but it is physically impossible to use the first application.
They don't mention that anywhere that you must use IE, but they not only don't specify this, but also have a "sniffer" which blocks my attempt to user the IE user agent.
I tried to send a feedback, and it was not accepted. So, my conclusion, reached long time ago by users of optional software, is that Microsoft stinks.

 

I also tried your link and could not, with any combination of stuff I have installed, get the video to play. I do not have real player installed.

I tried IE with the site set as trusted (low security) and I have all the programs it claimed I needed. No work.

I don't know if the problem is with just that site or not. I have watched videos before with no problems. Can you go to other sites and watch their videos?

 

You don't need Real Player. All you need are the items they bring up.
Interestingly, the feedback which appeared to have been refused, did go through, and I go a reply today from Microsoft tech support. They said:" For your information, Netscape browser is not supported by MSN video ".
I was able to watch any video using AOL, which is based on IE.

 

I tried it again in the afternoon yesterday and it worked in IE.

 

Thanks for the feedback. It appears that MSN Player is incompatible with Netscape.

Does any know how to change your default video player with Netscape?

 

You have to do it within the video player. But this will not help you with the MSN embedded player (meaning part of the site).

I sent a feedback suggesting that MSN Video be viewable in Netscape/Mozilla.

I got this reply:

I think that this is super attitute, even if nothing will happens.
