Just be careful, because this new version will start you from scratch. All settings were changed, so I had to take one preference after another, and make necessary changes. I have never been a fan of NS8.x, but this was unexpected.
If someone can tell me what I overlooked, please, let me know, because I am still irritated. I had five accounts set up in Webmail. Not one of them is there. My Personal Toolbar folder is there, but none of the Tabs which I had. And, all the inane tab setting were back. And, I could not find the System Mail button, until I went back to the Skypilot theme. The two themes provided are absurd, with a URL bar as wide as the Search bar.
After half hour, I am, almost, back to the original conditions.

    Westside,

Good grief, looks as if they would have warned the user that their preferences would have to be reset. Maybe I'll just pass on Netscape 8!

    What I like!

A long time ago I was a devoted NS user. Then I went thru all the agony of corporate (AOL and all that sorta stuff) fiddlings around; trying hard to keep my NS working. Enuff, already! I like -- no . . . LOVE! -- my FireFox 107 and I ain't changin'!!!

    Bob :D

    You go Bob!

I feel exactly the same way, and not a bit guilty, as Netscape is now owned by AOL, and not by Netscape. I find the browser O.K., but IMHO a far cry from Firefox. I will give AOL credit for keeping up with the security fixes in a more timely manner, but certainly not as quickly as our Mozilla pro's!

    :( and
Between AOL and Apple they are driving me up the wall.
I installed 8.0.4 only to be able to help people, but this is absurd. I sent a feedback, for all that it is worth.

    Westside,

Thanks to your warning about the problems with losing your Preferences after the install of 8.0.4, I was able to install without losing anything, after a copy/paste.

I treated the new install much like the move from one PC to another. Here's what I did:

Removed the salted folder from my [tt]C:\Windows|Applications Data\Netscape\NSB folder[/tt]
    (Windows 98SE)
    Copied my C:\Program Files\plugins folder
    Uninstalled 8.0.3.3
    Rebooted

    Installed 8.0.4
Let it start once and then closed. Like you said, it was totally messed up.

I then copied the contents of the old salted folder to the new salted folder, started 8.0.4 and everything was there, including extensions and themes. By salted folder I refer to the "randomcharacter.profilename" folder. FWIW...

    My 2¢ worth.....

    Holy ****.....

Installed 8.0.4 to E:\drive ( separate folder) - did not delete profile data.
So it brought up the profile location and profiles for 8.0.3.

It hijacked 8.0.3 shortcuts on DT and Start button...
Only shows ONE "Netscape Browser" in ADD/REMOVE folder ( I think one of the previous NS did this) so I only have ONE Uninstall option - and I assume it will uninstall 8.0.4 )

It did not correct the "search bar" problems ( can't remove via GUI ) but it looks like it may have fixed the "remove space" from the various toolbars...got to check on that one ?

In short - BIGGER JOKE than before....

edit - followup it did fix the "spacer" problem in the GUI - you can now add/remove spaces in toolbars

It did mess up the uninstall process....I don't recall exactly what the old NS fix was, but I uninstalled "Netscape Browser" via ADD/REMOVE and it uninstalled 8.0.4......I then re-installed 8.0.3 to SAME previous location - again removed "NS Browser" via ADD/REMOVE - this pretty well cleaned ALL 8.0.3 out.

Looks to me like you can not have BOTH 8.0.3 & 8.0.4 installed at the same time.....even in different directories.....

    boy what a mess.....

I was able to have two Netscape Browsers, in two different locations, with two different profiles, during the Beta, and the first release. I wanted to compare them side by side. It seems that my present profile is located in the NSB folder, while the inactive one is in the NSAE folder. Right now, the profile manager detects only the "default" profile in NSB. The NSAE folder is totally ignored.

    Sorry, I was not clear,

Though I have not tried it, and do not intend to, I think you could have both version installed to different locations. Both would use the same Profile location (C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Netscape\NSB\Profiles\)

As I mentioned, all the shortcuts are hijacked by the LAST one that was installed, you would have to create shortcuts manually pointing to the previous location. You do not have a means to Uninstall the previous version via ADD/REMOVE -

    .....but I could be wrong.....

I apologize for any confusion.....
