It sure is tricky to register for this forum when your e-mail doesn't work. So I had to use my work computer.

Problem: Windows locked and when I restarted Netscape lost my e-mails and profile. Via other threads here and elsewhere I know where the files and profile are, but the instructions to recover don't seem to work. I do not get the Server Settings window when I go to Edit | Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings . All I see is something for setting up outgoing e-mail and web mail. There is no field for the "local Directory" path. My screen does not look like the Screenshot http://home.att.net/~cherokee68/localdir.html. What am I doing wrong? I think my Netscape is 7.0. Is 7.0 different?

I don't know what you did, but there is another recent post .
I don't know if it got anywhere, for the original author. It may be just too confusing, but you will, probably, be better off creating a new profile ( with different name), and then copy/paste all information from the old profile.
The appearance of 7.0, which is very old, and, not so secure, is in a different location, but the Local Directory will not help, if everything is not in place.
I think that you click on the name of the account, and not server settings, and whenever in doubt click on Advanced.

    Welcome to the Forum, caryzabo!

When you are in the Server Settings window, you must resize, and enlarge the window by dragging a corner of the window. This is one of the annoyances of 7.0. Once you enlarge the window you will see the "Local directory" field path at the bottom of the window. Then you can edit the field to point to your working profile.

You really need to consider upgrading your browser, as it dates back to '02, and as Westside's explained, it has security vulnerabilities and bugs which have been addressed in Mozilla 1.7.12, Firefox, and Thunderbird. Netscape 7.0 is based on Mozilla 1.0.1, so you can see how outdated it is...
