I have been using my Netscape 7 bookmarks for several months with no problem. Last week I must have hit a wrong button and now my bookmark page is blank and the only way I can retrieve a bookmark is to search for it by name. I know the bookmarks are there, but they are hidden somewhere and I don't have any folders. How can I restore them?

    Thanks

    Hi and welcome!

Ramona is the expert here but she's probably still asleep ;) so in the meantime, try this, for a blank "Manage Bookmarks" window. This is for Mozilla 1.0.1 which should be similar to Netscape7:

On the main Netscape menubar, click Bookmarks, then Manage Bookmarks.
On the Bookmarks menubar, click View, then select Show Columns
Click Name if it is not already selected
(go back again and click Location , to view the actual web addresses in the Mange Bookmarks window)

If this isn't helpful, please give us more details.

    Netscape 7 Bookmark help

    Hi Alice,

I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work. Under the show column drop down menu I have the following items checked: Name, location, description, and last modified. When I open my bookmarks the only things on the page are Bookmark this page, File Bookmark, and Manage Bookmarks.

    Thanks

    Welcome to the Forum, monicafaye!

    Hi monicafaye,

Do you have an archive/backup of your Bookmark file? If so, with Netscape closed:
    Open Windows Explorer
    Browse to your xxxxxxxx.slt folder
C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\yourprofilename\xxxxxxxx.slt (depending on your OS)
    Rename your Bookmark file to:
    bookmarks.bak
Copy the backup copy to your xxxxxxxx.slt folder
    Open Netscape
    Your Bookmarks should be available

If you don't have a backup, let us know.

So how did you make out, monicafaye?

In case you didn't know the name of the Netscape7 bookmarks file is "bookmarks.html ".

    Alice and Ramona,

Unfortunately the only bookmark backup I have is a very old one that lacks most of my recent bookmarks. I can retrieve the bookmarks whose names I remember by doing a search in manage bookmarks, but there are many names I don't remember.

    Thanks for your replies.

    Hi monicafaye,

Have you tried opening your bookmarks.html file to see if all the Bookmarks are there? If not:

    With Netscape closed:
    Browse to the xxxxxxxx.slt folder
    Right click the bookmarks.html file
    Select: "Open with Notepad "
If you don't have that option
Highlight the file with a left click
    Hold down the shift key
    Right click
    Select: "Open With "
    From the list select: Notepad.
If your file is too large for Notepad, then Windows will prompt you to use Wordpad. Select "OK ".

    Let us know the results.

    Hi Ramona,

I've tried everything you suggested, but I still can't retrieve those bookmarks.

Thanks anyway for trying to help. I do appreciate it.

    Hi monicafaye

You didn't say whether or not your Bookmarks were in the file when you opened the file in Windows Explorer?

If they are there, what you might do next is create a new Profile. That cures a lot of Netscape 7 ills, and the Bookmarks are a part of your Profile.

    Let us know,

    Ramona :D

    Ramona,

I found my bookmarks when I launched Internet Explorer. Is there some way I can export them back to Netscape 7?

    Thanks

Open Internet Explorer, go File>Export & Import. It'll open wizard, which will allow you to export Favorities either directly to your Netscape profile, or just to a file.

    LOL! :D

    I definitely need coffee!!!

Have been helping someone else import their Address Book, and I definitely had Address Book on the brain.

Sorry 'bout that monicafaye, having a rather distracted morning...

    Thanks, Broni... ;)

Thanks so much for all your help. I successfully exported my Explorer favorites to my Netscape 7 bookmarks!
What a huge relief. You really provide a great service. Happy Holidays!!
