    Hi Ramona,
I'm back again. Still fighting netscape 7x.

My problem this time is I can not drag the emails into the folders I added. I can drag them into the Trash and Sent folders but when I attempt to drag them to my and the wife's folder it give me the following.

Messages could not be moved or copied to folder because writing to folder failed . To gain disk space, from the File menu, first choose Empty Trash, then choose Compact Folders, and try again.

Simple enough, even for me, the problem is ,it did not make a bit of difference. I still can't move the files.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated, as always.

    Regards,
    Oscar

I do this all the time. I highlight the heasder|right click|Move to...
If it does not work, you may have corrupted header file(s), so the Inbox.msf file should be deleted, with NS closed.

Thank you Westside but I didn't fare to well.

When I used Move to.... they moved but I don't know where as I have been unable to find them. I could not locate the Inbox.msf file so I figured I was looking in the wrong place although I found a Inbox file. Is that the one I want to delete?

I still have 4.7 installed but not as my default. I have to much information on it to delete it at present. I wouldn't think that would make a difference but again I
haven't been batting a 100 trying to out guess these programs.

If you'd give me an answer to the Inbox.msf file Maybe I could make it work. I love to delete but I'd rather know what I'm deleting when I do.

    Hi Oscar,

    Close Netscape and Quick Launch

    Open Windows Explorer
Navigate to your Mail Account Folder (See this page: Profiles Folder Location).

This is where you will find all MSF files. Look for Inbox.msf. Don't delete "Inbox" without the MSF extension. That is the file that contains your Mail.

    HTH,

    Hi Ramona,
Have you ever seen me accomplish anything the first time? I appreciate your reply to my problem but I didn't have any luck in deleting Inbo.msf file. It informed me it was in use and could not be deleted. I couldn't find it through Windows Explorer. I did find it twice by clicking on Browse on the Account settings. The first time the computer locked on me and the second time was when it told me it couldn't delete it. Try as I might I haven't been able to get it to come up again.

I did get the folder to accept the items I dragged over to it and it will send and receive. So you'd think I'd be happy with that but I have two accounts and I've been attempting to delete the one but no such luck.

It did import the information from Netscape 4x fine the reason I didn't realize it was because it was out of sight and last night I accidently pulled it up. Then I had four accounts but the one account I want removed will not delete either as an individual folder or with the Remove Account button. Have no problem with deleting the others individually.

Talk to you later. Take care. Happy that you replied to my last posting. I feel more relaxed writing you.

    Hi Oscar,

Remind me, are you running Windows XP? If so, the files you're looking for are hidden by default:
    To see the hidden files
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders

This may be why you can't find the Inbox.msf file. Did you try doing a Windows "Find" for Inbox.msf?
Start | Find | Files or Folders

You must close Netscape first, and that includes Quick Launch. If Netscape is open, then you will get the error, that the file is in use...

    Then open Windows Explorer
Navigate to the Mail Account Folder
    See: Profiles Folder Location

    There is where you should delete Inbox.msf, Drafts.msf, Templates.msf, Sent.msf, and Trash.msf.

    Hi Ramona,
Yes, I do have Windows XP. Sometimes I stop and ask why.

I followed your instructions and deleted the Msf files but I don't notice any difference. I still have the two accounts plus a long list of files from My Documents ie my Music, pictures, video, files, family tree etc. It won't delete
any of them nor the second account I was hoping to get rid of.

I don't know how I get myself into these messes other then ignorance on my part.

Thank you for your assistance. I learn something each time but I don't mess things up just so you can give me another lesson. Although it may seem that way at times to you.

    Hi Ramona,

I've been thinking. Why don't I uninstall netscape 7.1 and 7.2 and start from scratch. That would probably save both of us some time messing with this.

I guess I should have unistalled 7.1 before installing 7.2 as there may be some conflict with both installed. Seven.two has a weather station which disappeared
the day after I installed 7.2 and all have is the uninstall or that's all I've been able to find.

I think I have a handle on the account file and the import. So what do you think? Should I do it or not?

    Hi Oscar,

You can delete the second account in Windows Explorer. But be sure to close Netscape first. Look in some of the files to ensure you are deleting the correct Account. Check the dates of the Mail, the most recent will be at the end of the file.

Are you saying that you're unable to delete files from My Documents, and My Music? That is a Windows thing and you should probably post that on the Windows XP Forum. Those guys are great on that Forum.

    Hi Oscar,

Whoops, I almost missed your last post. You have both 7.1 and 7.2 installed, and I'm wondering if you have a separate Profile for each Version?

Another question I have, is did you install 7.2 in a separate folder, than
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape ?

If not, then that is at the root of your Problems.

    Let us know...

    Hi Ramona,

The files Miusic etc is in Netscape just below the column that contains the folders containing Inbox, Draft, Trash etc. The delete button won't delete them,
nor can I delete the account with it or from the list Remove Account, Set as
Default and Add Account. It will delete the one that works but the not the other one.

The 7.1 & 7.2 are in different folders but They have the same profile I'm certain.
I knew there was a reason to delete 7.1 before installing 7.2. I goofed again.

I'm use to update where you don't have to be concerned about the Profile and I never gave it a thought when I upgraded. Maybe it would make sense then to uninstall them both and reinstall 7.2 ???

    Oscar,

Yes, delete them both, and you may have to create a new Profile, but don't know until you uninstall both and reinstall 7.2.

    Uninstall 7.1 and 7.2 using Add/Remove
    Then Reboot your PC

    Restart your PC
Now that both programs are deleted:
Delete the GRE folder located here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE

Delete the Netscape folder located here:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape

You may want to backup your Plugins folder before deleting the Netscape folder.

NOTE: If you still have Netscape Communicator installed, then delete only the second Netscape folder:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape

Now you are ready to reinstall Netscape 7.2. Do a "Custom" install so you can choose your own options. See this page for Screen Shots of the Netscape 7.2 install: http://home.att.net/~cherokee65/index5.html

    Hi Ramona,
Hope you enjoy your week-end IF you take one.

Thank you for your information. I do appreciate it very much. I decided to take a couple of days off from the computer and pulls some weeds. Why I don't know as I can't seem to stay ahead of them.

I have all questions for you this time. Will the McAfee create any conflict with Nortan Anti Virus, what is a Deveopler Pack & do I delete the MSF files from 7.2 as I did the last time?

Is there anyway the file extensions on Real Player download sites can be changed to have them play on Window Media Player 10?

    Hi Oscar,

I hear you on those weeds! :D

McAfee and Norton AV do not get along!

Are you referring to the Sun Development Kit, or the SDK. That is for the developers to use. The Version of Java for users like us is JRE 1.4.2_05.

If you are creating a new Profile, and you should, then yes, delete the MSF files in the Mail Account and SBD folders. See: Creating a New Profile.

File types that are not supported by Media Player are:

    RealNetworks Content (.ra, .rm, .ram)
    QuickTime Content (.avi, .mov, .qt)
    MPEG-4 (.mp4)

This is up to and includes Version 9. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];316992

    Hi Ramona,

Thanks for the information. I appreciate it, as always. Bet you get tired of hearing that.

The McAfee Clinic Activator, whatever that is. The one you show on the install of 7.2 is what I was wondering whether it conflicted with Norton Anti Virus.

You also show SunJava 2, which I never fully understood what it does. If I'm not mistaken I have that installed. Also the Micromedia Flash Player.

    Hi Ramona,

I'm afraid I Installed 7.2 in the same folder as 7.1 as I am unable to delete 7.1.
The uninstall log is missing. Would uninstalling 7.2 uninstall 7.1 or is that asking to much. When I click on the old 7.1 icon in the Quick Launch it brings up 7.2.

Sometimes I wish we still had Dos. I spent 2 years with it writing a book and 2 more on my family tree. Either that or I should have held off on doing both and learned more about the computer. Oh well it'll come out in the wash as Mom use to say.

    Hi Oscar,

That is what should happen. If you uninstall 7.2, it should uninstall everything, including the 7.1 listing in Add/Remove. I just put up a new web page on this very subject: Can't Uninstall Netscape 7.1 After Installing Netscape 7.2.

The official description for the McAfee Clinic Activator on the setup wizard: "for VirusScan Online installs and updates." This item isn't needed unless you use the McAfee antivirus software. If you're using Norton, Grisoft AVG, Panda, or other antivirus software products it's best not to install this component.

You do need to upgrade to SunJava 1.4.2_05, due to a security vulnerability. First uninstall the version you have now. It should be listed in Add/Remove. You can download the Java Plugin here: Sun Java 1.4.2_05

To check your current Java version go to Start | Settings | Control Panel
Click on the Java Plug-in Icon
Click on the "About" Tab, and the version will be in that window

    Hi Ramona,

I gave you the wrong information on whether 7.1 & 7.2 weren't in the same folder. I think they are as I cannot delete 7.1 and when I click the 7.1 icon 7.2 pops up. Haven't I wrote you this before. I couldn't find it on the posting so thought I'd send it again in case I haven't.

So I'm standing by for directions. This reminds me the problem I had when I downloaded 7.1 and didn't uninstall 7.0 before hand. You'd think I'd learn after awhile. It's just that there is to much time in between I don't remember all I should do. One of these days I hope to improve on that.

    Hi Ramona,

This isn't my day. I'm not normally this rattled. Just to many things on my mind.
back to pulling weeds for awhile as I don't need to think while doing that. I checked the postings again and you had answered my questions.

    Thank you very much.

    Hi Oscar,

Note, that I suggested uninstalling 7.2 first. That way 7.1 will also be uninstalled. Just relax, and you'll be fine. I promise that we will get you up and running...
