I very recently upgraded from 7.1 to 7.2 and today while trying to change my dearly coveted themes that worked just fine with 7.1 they apparently won't function with this newer version. Why?

If not, does anyone have any idea when a selection will be available for the upgrade? What a bummer this is. I love variety!!

    Thanks.

    Hi vegaspat,

Which themes? Did you go to the author's website? Do the themes indicate that they are available for 7.2? I'm asking because I wonder if the author of whichever Themes you are trying, has indicated which versions of Netscape are compatible.

On the Themes page this is indicated with a Netscape icon.

    Ramona,

I had already visited the site you mentioned, but figured that someone here had already checked it out and knew exactly which ones would be compatible with this new version.

I previously had about seven that worked just FINE with 7.1 but so far every one I attemped to apply to this version presents me with an alert that it is only workable with 7.1.

We were just discussing this at Silly Dog. If you go to Mozilla Update with NS 7.2 it will show that there are no extensions and themes available yet. BUT if you go to the extension room, you will find several extensions made specifically for Mozilla that will obviously work for NS. And we know that Sailfish has developed several themes that will work on the latest NS 7.2. I agree that it is becoming increasingly confusing even for those of us who have been long-time Netscape fans. Having splintered into so many different branches and having opened the source code up so that anybody and everybody is writing themes and extensions for their favorite browser, it's hard to know anylonger what works with what. In a way it is a ridiculous situation. :(

The link given by Ramona indicates which theme goes with 7.2. I just installed the Skypilot themes(it is the one and only). I installed the the Theme Installer add-on from the same page, and the .jar format.

    James,

Would I need the Theme Installer and the .jar format?

I didn't understand the installer the last time and never did install it. And I have no idea what the .jar format is for.

    Thanks.

    Another question.

How do I uninstall the previous themes that are no longer usable with 7.2.

They are not in the Add/Remove box and if I can't utilize them I would like to get rid of them.

Is it as easy and going into the Chrome folder and simply deleting them? I don't want the little devils in my registry either.

    Thanks again. :p

    vegaspat,

This Themes page has the uninstall instructions:
    http://themes.mozdev.org/

    Uninstall instructions for XPI-installed themes

    1. Highlight the theme and confirm that the "Uninstall" button in Themes preferences is greyed-out, then [IMPORTANT!] select another theme [say Modern] from the list and then exit the browser.
    2. Using your file navigator (e.g., Windows Explorer on Windows), navigate to this browser's installation folder [Attention!] not your Profile folder) and then navigate to the "chrome" sub-folder and delete "chrome.rdf" (save a copy first) and any ThisTheme.jar files in it. (Note: the "chrome.rdf" file will be automatically rebuilt once you restart this browser.)
    3. While in the same folder, edit the "installed-chrome.txt" file and remove the entry that refers to the theme's *.jar!/ file (this should be close to the bottom of the list) and save the change. Note: This entry may not exist, in which case, ignore any changes to the file.
    4. Restart this browser and note that the theme has been removed from the Theme preferences list. If not, then review and repeat steps 1 thru 3.

    Hi vegaspat,

XPI is a cross platform installer file, used for installing Themes and Extensions.

    :) Hi Vegaspat;
Ramona is right. Go to <http://www.projectit.com/freestuff.html>. Once there, you can select a theme of your liking, for example, try the "Toy Factory" which is fun. Donwload it and after you'be done it, close you Netscape 7.2 browser and re-start-it once again. The new theme will be available at "View ", "Apply Theme ". That's all there is to it! It works nicely with the new Netscape.

    Cheers!

Hello all....was doing some research and it lead me to your forum....I am fairly new at using Netscape and I love to apply new colors and skins to most all my programs...so when I realized I had to find new themes for Netscape I looked high and low. Anyhow.....I have been reading your posts here and just thought you might like to know that you CAN use any of the skins from here http://themes.mozdev.org/ that are made for the Mozilla version 1.8. I was in another forum and found some info explaining that the skins for this version were ALSO compatable with the Netscape 7.2. Sooooo any of the skins that you click on in the themes category...as long as they show a skin for Moz 1.8 you can use on your Net 7.2. I have done several and they work great. Hope this helps. :)
