Hoping for help with my problem. I am on Windows XP using Netscape browser and mail. Worked fine on Saturday.....wouldn't start up on Sunday. Computer was shutdown normally Saturday. Everything else besides Netscape seems to be working fine. I am technically ignorant, but have used computers for years. Advice will be much appreciated.
    Thank you
    Rosalind

    Welcome to the Forum, Rosalind!

    Rosalind,

You don't say which Version of Netscape, so I will assume it is Netscape 7.xx.
    Back up your Profiles Folder(s)
    Back up your Plugins Folder
    Using Add/Remove
    Uninstall Netscape
    Uninstall Mozilla (if installed)
    Next:
    Delete the following folders:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE
C:\Program Files\mozilla.org (only if you unzipped, or installed Mozilla)

    Clear the Temp folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\profilename\Local Settings\Temp

    REBOOT the PC

Reinstall Netscape using an offline installer.

Let us know if the above resolves the startup problem.

Once the problem is addressed you should seriously consider abandoning Netscape, which is now obsolete, and contains serious security issues, and many bugs, one of which you just encountered.

I highly recommend the Firefox browser, and the Thunderbird mail client. These programs are excellent, stable, and all security issues contained in Netscape have been addressed, and then some. Your Netscape settings will be migrated automatically to both Firefox and Thunderbird during installation, which is a totally painless procedure.
