I now run internet explorer with dsl. I ran netscape 7.1 befor I got a virus just fine. After the virus I reformated the hard drive and reinstalled the os ( winxp pro) now I have installed Netscape 7.1 and everything installed ok, but cant run the program, I click on the icon, go to start menu, or double click directly on the netscape program and there is 1/2 a second of hour glass then nothing. I have a amd 1800 with 768 megs of memory and radeon 8500 video graphics card. ( like I said it ran fine befor so its not the system) I don't know if I need a certain service pack or what , tks in advance for any help!

That's weird, I'm running netscape 7.1 on xp home w/ no problem.

If you open the task mgr and look at your tasks then try to open netscape do you see it even try to start up?

    Welcome to the Forum, bbrinizer!

    Hi bbrinizer,

Some workarounds for you to try:

Start Netscape without being connected to the internet. Go to Preferences and change or remove the Home Page.
    Select: "Blank Page ".
Disable: "Empty trash on exit" in your Mail Accounts' Server Settings

    With Netscape closed:

If there is a QuickLaunch icon in the system tray, disable it. Do a
CTRL+ALT+DEL to see if there is an instance of the netscp.exe in the
    list. End Task if so.

    Locate the profile directory:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt

    Delete:
    LOCALSTORE.RDF
    XUL.MFL
    Delete the chrome folder

Try to start it now ...

If that doesn't work, then create a new profile. Try loading that new profile. If that works, then something in your profile has become corrupt (or is incompatible with the new version).

At this point there are several options - but copying files one at a time until the browser stops working is a good way to determine which files are bad. Likely problems are:

    Themes
    Chrome' directory
    prefs.js
    user.js
    XUL.mfl

Let us know if you have any further questions.

    Ramona :D
