    hi,
i downloaded and installed netscape 7.1 and i can't get it to work. i click on the icon or select it from the task bar and nothing happens. the program does not begin, nor does it appear in the control/alt/delete menu of running programs.

any ideas? could there be a corrupted file in my computer or another program that might be conflicting with it. i am new to all this so let me know if you have any suggestions.

Sorry no one has come up with a solution.

Have you tried the Start Programs menu Netscape shortcut instead of using the "quicklaunch" icon? Also try doing a Find on netscp.exe and double-click it to start the program.

I all else fails try creating a new profile.
Look for an icon called Profilemanager in the same Start Programs menu folder as the Netscape program.

You didn't mention whether you upgraded from Netscape 7.0x.
If so then you need to uninstall 7.0x before installing 7.1. If you didn't then it's possible you have a bad install.

Here is a guide to a clean install of Netscape 7.1

    Welcome to the Forum ap0013!

    Hi ap0013,

    Try this:

    Close your internet connection
Start netscape without being connected to the internet
Go to Edit | Preferences Navigator
Change the home page to "Blank Page "
Disable "Empty trash on exit" in your mail accounts' Server Settings

If there is a QuickLaunch icon in the system tray, disable it.
Do a CTRL+ALT+DEL to see if there is an instance of the netscp.exe in the
list - if so, End Task

    Locate the profile directory (Location)
    Delete:
    localstore.rdf
    XUL.mfl
    Delete the chrome folder

Try to start it now ...

    Ramona :D
