Hi, I wonder if I could get some help. My inbox at Netscape 7.1 is very large (146 mb), since I keep an archive there since two years back. Some of the last messages has been corrupted and I am not longer able to see them. I made a copy of the Inbox and created a new profile with a brand new Inbox. But I want still open it, since the file its too large I cant open it with Wordpad or other texteditor.
I tried to export it to Eudora or to Outlook but I couldnt open it, since the format is Inbox, a special Netscape format.
    Any hints?

    Welcome to the Forum, wordacea!

    Hi word,

As you have unfortunately found out, the Inbox is not intended for Mail archiving.

    Close Netscape and Quick Launch
In Windows Explorer navigate to your Old Profile Mail Account Folder | Inbox.msf file
    Delete the Inbox.msf file
Don't delete the file without the MSF extension, as you know, it contains your Mail.

Can you open the Inbox in the old Netscape Profile? If you can open the Inbox, then do this. Create several subfolders in your Mail Account Folder. Move sections of the Inbox to these newly created subfolders. In other words, break up your large Inbox folder into smaller subfolders of the Mail Account - not the Inbox.

Hi Ramona and thanks for your answer! The problem is the file extension I have is sbd, not msf. The files are inbox, without any extension (thats the big, with 160 mb) and other one, called inbox.sbd, with only 1.2 mb).
I can open the inbox but the most of the messages have been corrupted or they are empty. Do you know if its possible to rebuild it?
    Thanks!

    Hi Word,

When you view your Mail Account Folder in Windows Explorer you should see files with an MSF extension. Take a look at the second screen shot on this page:
    http://home.att.net/~cherokee68/mailacctfolder.html
The Inbox.sbd folders contain subfolders of the Inbox.

I also meant to ask if you have compacted your folders recently. It's always a good idea to do that on a frequent basis. File | Compact Folders

    Close Netscape and Quick Launch
    Back up the Profilesl Folder
This backup is very important, as we are going to rebuild the Inbox...

Rename the Inbox file to Inbox2
Delete the Inbox.msf file (if you have one)

Open Netscape, and a new Inbox will be created, and it will be empty.
Open the corrupt Inbox, and move the most current messages, if they aren't corrupt, to the new Inbox. Highlight those messages and drag them, with a left click, to the new Inbox.

Don't let too many messages accumulate in the new Inbox. Create subfolders instead, for those messages you wish to archive.

For the sake of closure, I received a PM from wordacea, thanking me for the help on her Inbox issue. She was able to get back into her corrupt Inbox for editing. This is what she said:

"Yes, indeed! I was able to move the old inbox and delete for hand the corrupted messages. "

    Ramona :D

Edited to correct the "HE" and change to "SHE ", after a PM from Word. ;)
