My business just recently decided to switch domain hosting services - our website isn't yet active, but switching over our email accounts has become an ordeal. The new hosting service only provides instructions on switching accounts in Outlook Express, leaving our Netscape-mail based employees in the lurch.

Much as I have been chagrined in the past by Microsoft products, all the switchover information for outlook is in one convenient dialog: Tools -> Email Accounts -> Add a new account -> input user information, server information, and logon information. The only thing not in the dialog screen is the choice for outgoing server requiring authentication, which is conveniently located in "More Settings. "

Changing all of these things in Netscape has proved to be a much more difficult problem. We've got four computers running 4.02 and one running 7.1. In 4.02, I can find (in the Mail & Newsgroups Preferences) places to input all the information but password. When I try to Send/Receive, I am told that the server is found, but requires my password. I enter the password. I am told that the login information is invalid, that either the username or the password or both are incorrect. Which they're not. I tried using the password we used on our old server, not really sure why, but that refused to work as well.

I have another major problem with 7.1, but I'll post that in a separate thread. Many thanks for letting a dope like me pick your brains.

    Hi Christine,

It's amazing that people are still using a browser as obsolete as Communicator 4.02. Maybe you could give them a nudge! ;)

I did find a Netscape KB Article giving instructions for setting the password in Versions 4.0x:
    http://help.netscape.com/kb/consumer/19970612-11.html

Keep in mind that it is the server, and not Netscape, requesting the password information.

    Ramona :D
