Netscape 7.02 Error on Load

I am trying to load Netscape 7.02. I keep getting
an error while it is loading mail and newsgroups.
The error is : Mail & Instant Messaging: 1009.

When I reload as custom and remove Mail and Newsgroups, everything loads just fine.

I have searched on this group and using several search engines. All with no luck as to what this message means. I need the mail and instant messaging. Does anyone have any ideas?
I also tried to find error messages on the netscape site, but to no avail.

Which Version of Netscape 7.02 are you trying to install, i.e. SillyDog Streamline, Compact, or the Official Netscape?

Also, what OS do you run?

I am running Windows ME.

I've had Netscape 7 loaded and running since last
Nov. I was attempting to upgrade to 7.02.

I initially downloaded from the netscape site. I tried both the short and long versions of the download. I tried to install both the full and custom versions. When I tried the custom version and deselected mail and newsgroups, I was able to get 7.02 working.

I also downloaded from SillyDog the streamline version. It got the same error with one exeption - it read mail 1009. It did not refer to instant messaging.

In my search I have been able to find several times where someone had an error with 1009. However, none of them appeared to have anything to do with mail.

Hi rglbjl,

I can certainly understand your frustration. I have only seen one other user having a problem with this error, although they did not mention that it was specific to Mail or NIM.

I haven't abandoned you, and I will continue to look for a workaround. Whatever I find will be posted here.

I have just found the problem. My registry had an error in it. It was letting me do most of the normal operations. However, it was not letting me load Netscape 7.02 with the mail. After I restored the registry with a backup copy, I was able to load 7.02 with mail and everything works just fine. Thanks for looking into this for me.

I guess since you restored the Registry, you don't know which Registry Keys were preventing the load?

At any rate, glad that you are able to use Netscape again.
