    Hey all,

I'm writing to find out if there is a bug in Netscape 7.02, or how I can fix this problem.

I'm using Netscape 7.02 (Antony's SillyDog version). I have a folder called The Simpsons (for bookmarks that I am saving for a group project). In that folder I bookmarked a web site called "the simpsons." Later I came across another site called "the simpsons" (but different address). When I bookmarked that one as well, I discovered later that I had lost the previous site entitled "the simpsons" but I had the most recent one there. Does Netscape 7.02 overwrite bookmarks that are placed in the same folder that have the same name? If this is a bug, they could have at last provided a work around to prompt you to overwrite it or not, and I could have named the title something else.

So is this replacing of bookmarks with the same title a bug?

I have another question as well. I have noticed that when I use Mozilla 1.3 and later (this includes Netscape 7.1 based on Mozilla 1.4) that web sites seem to take longer to load. At first I thought it was just my personalized portal at www.excite.com. (This is a web site where you sign in and pick the layout of the colors and themes and pick the content, similar to yahoo). It takes longer to download almost every site I go to. And what also frustrates me is that when I go back to a page I was just on, it seems to take longer to download the page than it should. It shouldn't be downloading it again because I just visited the page. Let me be clear and say it isn't "really" refreshing, but it just seems to download certain parts again. Meanwhile if I were to do the same thing in Mozilla 1.0.2 or Netsape 7.02 it's instantaneous, it dosn't download anything when I hit back and the page loading is done. I do not have it set to refresh everytime I visit page, it's on the setting whenever the page is out of date.

My last complaint, I've noticed in Mozilla 1.3 and later, when I go to a page (let's say a forum like this) and the thread has multiple pages. Let's say I scroll down all the way to the bottom of the first page and then click the little link that says next page (or the number 2), and then hit back to go to the first page, it starts at the top, appears to load the page a little, then jumps down to the bottom of the page. In Mozilla 1.0.2 or Netscape 7.02 it stays directly at the bottom, never goes to the top and then scrolls back down. I discovered that firebird 0.7 has this problem (as well as the previous one that it seems to refresh pages a little bit that I just visited a second ago).

It was for the last two reasons that I used Netscape 7.02, because it was the most stable for me and didn't have these "glitches."

I'm using Internet Explorer 6.0 sp1 for now until I can resolve these issues (shudders thinking about IE security holes :( ).

If anyone can help me I'd appreciate it. I'm sorry for the long post.

    Hi Kevin,

    Bookmarks:
You can save two Bookmarks with the same name, but different URL's in Netscape 7.1. Also works in Mozilla 1.5.

    Slow Page Loading:
Do you clear your Cache frequently
Does your system meet Netscape specifications?
If using Netscape 7.1, have you applied the Resource Leak workaround? It takes a longer on ME for the problem to manifest.

    Remembering page position:
Here's what happens in Netscape 7.1:
    Scroll to bottom
    Click next
    Starts at top
    Click back
    Starts at bottom

    Mozilla 1.5
    Scroll to bottom
    Click next
    Starts at top
    Click back
    Starts at top

Next time you have multiple problems it might be better to use multiple threads, rather than lumping them into one. Someone searching for Cache or slow loading pages might not look in a thread titled with Bookmarks... ;)

    Thanks!

    Ramona :D

    Hi Romona,

Well glad to see the bookmarks thing is a bug and not me going crazy.

Yes I tried emptying the cache regularly, almost every day.
I have tried with the resource leak fix and without the resource leak fix. Still get the slow loading.

As far as the page back thing, I do not understand what you mean. If I scroll down to the bottom of the first page, and click on the link to go to the next page (page two) it starts at the top of page 2 as it should. But then when I hit the back button on the browser it goes back to th eprevious page as it should (the first page) but starts at the top of the page for a secon, appears to load a little of the page, and then jumps to the bottom where it should be normally. in previous version of netscape 7.02, if I do this same process, I end up immediately at the end of the first page where I should be, with no "partial loading" and then jumping to the bottom of the page. I just hit back and it says done in the status bar and it's at the bottom of the page as it should be.

    Any other ideas.

I have Windows ME with 192mb of ram, where up to 11mb is used for video ram (so i still meet the requirements. I have a 633mhz intel celeron processor.

    Hi Ramona,

I have installed Netscape 7.1 (SillyDog's version again). I used the flash included in this installer, and I use Java version 1.3.1.09. I customized the preferences the way I like them, with a cache size of 150MB.

Should I use the resource leak workaround, and what size should I set it to?

    Kevin,

Your Cache size is quite large. Why don't you try setting it at 10 MB, and see how that works.

On the memCache setting, run Netscape 7.1 for a while, using the Windows Resource Meter. You may not have a problem, but you won't know without giving it a try first. If you receive a warning that your system resources are low, then with your 181 MB of available RAM, set your memCache at 2048 and see if that works for you.
    In Netscape 7.1
Scrolling to the bottom of the first page, then clicking on "Next ", opens that page at the top.

Clicking the "Back" button loads the first page at the bottom of the page.

Clicking the "Previous" button loads the first page at the top of the page.
    I experienced no partial loading.

    Ramona :D
