    Hi broni,

The streamline versions from SillyDog don't have the media players

The Stand Alone has only the following components:

    Navigator
    Macromedia Flash
    Classic Skin
    No Activation

The Streamline has the following components:

    Navigator
    Mail & News
    Spell Checker
    Instant Messaging
    Macromedia Flash
    Classic Skin
    No Activation

With a "Custom" install you can even opt out of some of the above items.

Note: There is no AIM in the Stand Alone Version. It is required, however, for Mail & News, if you wish to use the Netscape.com Web Mail. There are other details concerning opting out of AIM with Mail & News, which you can read on the SillyDog site.

    Additional Information

    Hello all,
Just to add some additional information.
It is not necessary to uninstall previous version of Netscape.
However, if you have previous versions of Netscape installed, and wish to keep them, you can install Netscape 7 (streamlined 13MB only, recommended) into another directory. but please be aware of small issue about the plugins.

    (1) Netscape 7 will automatically use all installed plug-ins that is installed in the old version.
    (2) Netscape 7 comes with security fixed Flash player (v6.0 r47) and Netscape 6 comes with Flash player (v5.0 r41)
    (3) Because Netscape 7 will use all plugins installed before, and if you don't manual uninstall Flash player (v5.0 r41) out of Netscape 6's folder, you will see two list of Flash player in your about:plugins

    My personally suggestions:
    (1) move the file npswf32.dll out of your old plugins folder.
    (2) install the Flash player that came with Netscape 7.

For more information, please read Netscape 7.0 Streamline or Navigator 7.0 Stand-alone.

Is there going to be a Mac version of the streamlined NS7?

I "detest" an HD crammed with useless stuff and trying to figure out what to weed out.

I'm sorry if you found that not as many Mac users used the streamlined versions before, but it was so easy to get a clean, lean install of NS for Mac before... you simply trashed the AIM module from the installer folder... told it to skip it and unchecked everything else you didn't want...

It's not that easy anymore... people who've installed the whole thing are either putting up with the clutter or weeding it out manually... not for this user!

My "weeding" days ended with my use of Windows!

    OK Antony... I'm listening!

What do I need to do? :)

In fact, I woudn't mind doing a "completely" stripped version... I find NS Messenger 4.76 still works just fine and will probably make the switch to Eudora anyway to accomdate Opera...

I might need to ask you to pack and test files for me, if you can.
OR if you want, I can tell you steps on how to create them.

    Benefit of Netscape 7.0 Streamline

    Benefit of Netscape 7.0 Streamline

There are many benefits of using Netscape 7.0 Streamline such as the much smaller file sizes.
    No brandings.
    All changes are detailed documented.
There are no (preselected) third party plugins or add-ins.
Other than that, there are no additional tweaks. (additional bookmark and sidebar are only available to new profile uses only, and can be easily removed.)

The Streamline series would serve the best interest for end users, because they can get the browser that is (almost) the same configuration as from Netscape Communications Corp. Simply, there are no internal modification/tweaks/configurations, and users can be sure that nothing has been modified/changed.

No additional third party plug-ins or add-ins can ensure the most stable state as Netscape's full package release. Netscape 7 is released based on stable Mozilla 1.0.1. The stability of third party's plug-in and add-ins cannot be guaranteed.

Netscape 7.0 Streamline is released under both Netscape 7 Client Customization Kit License Agreement
    and
Netscape Browser Distribution Program License Agreement.

Not sure if I shall add this bit...

(Just to answer some questions others have asked.)
Netscape 7.0 Streamline and Navigator 7.0 Standalone has not been updated simply because it has been intensively tested before releasing.

If you want to add extra add-ons into Netscape 7.0 Streamline or Standalone, you can simply add those into it the same way as adding those add-ons into Netscape 7.0 (Full from Netscape.com)
