    Hi, I have been using Netscape 7.0 for a few days........still doing some tweaking on it. I used Communicator 4.7 for a long while, had trouble with it and switched to IE6. I have come back to Netscape and really like 7.0, but I have a couple of problems with it:
    1. I can't drag the icon on the location bar to the personal toolbar to set a bookmark there. (Help tells me I can do it, but I can't) I want the Google search button there. (I really liked the Google Toolbar that I could use with IE6, but I figured this would do just as well.)
    2. When I bookmark a page, it won't work if I use the File Bookmark option.
    3. I have set a Master Password. I am not asked for it when I got to sites . It just automatically fills in without asking me.......I have it set to ask me for every site that is in my list.
    4. Can I safely uninstall Communicator 4.7?
    I guess this was more than a couple of questions. Hope they are posted in the right place.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Forum, Kepiano!

    Hi Kepiano,

    1. You can click on the Icon, and File the Google Bookmark in your Personal Toolbar Folder. That's what you should be able to do, if that feature works, or add it to an existing folder on the Personal Toolbar.

    You can also add the following lines to your user.js file, and a click on the Netscape Throbber in the upper right hand corner of the page will bring up Google:
    user_pref( "browser.throbber.url ", "http://www.google.com ");
    user_pref( "messenger.throbber.url ", "http://www.google.com ");
    user_pref( "compose.throbber.url ", "http://www.google.com ");
    user_pref( "addressbook.throbber.url ", "http://www.google.com ");

    2. Do you not get a window for filing the Bookmark, or what exactly happens, or doesn't happen?

    3. I'm not certain what's going on with your Master Password problem. I'll get back to you that.

    4. You can safely uninstall Communicator; however, you might want to wait until you have Netscape 7.0 more stabilized. Communicator and Netscape 7.0 run very compatibly side by side. I run Netscape 7.0, Mozilla 1.1, and Communicator 4.8, with no compatibility problems. I do use unique profiles.

    Thank you for the reply. On the File Bookmark subject........I click on 'File Bookmark'. It opens a little window and I click on the folder I want to save the bookmark in, then 'Default Folder' and exit. The bookmark isn't there. I have also tried the 'New Folder" too and that didn't work either. I will try your suggestions for Google. I just wanted to know about Communicator because I am not using it.........just thought it would clean up some space if I removed it.

    Password Manager

    Hi Bonnie,

    O.K., on your Bookmark File problem:

    Don't click on Default, just select the appropriate folder, then click O.K.

    Have you checked your settings to be certain Password Manager is turned on?

    In Preferences under the Privacy & Security category, click Passwords. (If no subcategories are visible, double-click Privacy & Security to expand the list.) In the Password Manager section, select or deselect "Remember passwords" to turn Password Manager on or off.

    Click on the Netscape Browser "Help" tab. Go to the "Using Privacy Features" then "Using the Password Manager ". Check your configuration against these guidelines, and see if perhaps you have overlooked some minor detail.

    Let us know if you continue to have problems.

    Just tried bookmarking this page as you suggested with the 'File Bookmark'......didn't work.
    I have read and reread the Help file on the Password stuff. Password Manager is checked under Password Manager. Under Master Passwords, I have it set to 'Every time it is needed "
    I am sure it is something I have overlooked, but I sure don't know what.
    Thanks again for the help

    Hi Bonnie,

    File Bookmarks: are you highlighting the folder in the "Add Bookmark" window in the "Create in:" window, then clicking "OK "? That should work, with no problems.

    On your Master Password, don't give up on me yet. Let me scrounge around and see what I can find out for you.

    I am doing this: Bookmarks>File Bookmark>Highlighting the folder I want to place the bookmark in and hitting Enter.
    Just tried it again and it worked! I didn't do anything any different (that I am aware of).
    One problem solved.........no thanks to me.
    Thanks again.

    Hi again. This probably doesn't really belong in this thread, but one of my former issues was wanting the Google toolbar. I did some searching and at www.mozdev.org I found a Google Toolbar emulator. I did install it and it works just like the real Google Toolbar. My question is: Was this an ethical thing to do? I don't know anything about mozdev.org. I am just curious. I don't want to be using something I shouldn't be.
    Thanks

    Hi Bonnie,

    Yes, it's ethical and the EULA Police will not get you... we will protect you! ;)

    Let us know how it goes with the Google Toolbar. I don't usually mention using it, as I do read about problems. That's why I suggested using the user.js entries instead, for the throbber. That doesn't necessarily mean that you will have problems. I do have an uninstall guide if you ever need it.

    There is no problem with using any of the Mozilla addons found at mozdev.org, since that is what they are there for.

    Just a quick update.........Master Password still isn't working. I like the Googlebar. The only problem I have with it is that it sometimes isn't there, but all I have to do is: View>Show/Hide and click on it and it comes back.

    The Master Password problem is solved. It was my own stupidity. I had to have the 'encryption when storing sensitive data' checked. I hope nobody went to too much trouble for this. My daughter was having the same problem, so I guess I can let her know that we should have both done a little more research.
    Thanks for the time and help!

    Well, it didn't look stupid to me! I was having the same problem and tried your solution with success. Except now it asks for the password twice each time instead of not at all. The process of encryption and managing passwords seems redundant to me, I just don't see how they work together. Anyway, significant progress!

    Thanks for sharing your solution.

    It was asking me twice at the bank, but now for the last 3 or 4 times, it is just asking me once. Guess it must have cured itself. That was the only site it was asking twice, but I guess twice was better than none.
