Netscape 7.0 and mail

I have had no problems with the new
version. EXCEPT!

There is no arrow OR sound when mail
arrives. this was never a problem in
version 4.? But 6-7 has had a problem.

I don't want to use the dumb notify
tray option, I feel thats another loaded
problem sucking up resources......

I don't want to have to jump ship and
kill netscape all togather. Other then
this, I am ok with the operation of
Netscape.

I have been using netscape since
thay went public......
many-many-years ago...

any help would be greatful....
I only have a few hairs left.

Hi wmoore,

You should have Mail notification sound. Check your Preferences under:
Edit | Preferences | Mail & Newsgroups
When new messages arrive:
Enable: Play a sound
Enable: Show an alert

With the Mail window open:
Check Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings
Under your Account
Server Settings
Enable your selections under Server Settings

The catch is, that the Mail & Newsgroups component has to be open in order for the Mail notification to work.

You will have a small white envelope with green arrow in the System Tray when new mail arrives. Granted, this feature didn't work in Netscape 6.0, but it does work in Netscape 7.0.

I have sound,
if i leave my mail reader open...

I like the way version 4.7 worked,
It would beep when mail arrives
then I would go to mail and read it.
or just with netscape and surfing it
would beep and then I'd go to mail.

I think it stinks that you have to have
netscap AND mail open too.

I have my mail set to check every min.
but I have to open mail to see
( and hear ) if I have mail.

Hi wmoore,

I would suggest that you change your mail setting to check every 10 minutes. I think you will avoid future problems by so doing.
