    Hi,

    I'm using Netscape 6.2 on a WindowsME-PC.

When I try to enter (?, sorry I'm using the German version, and I don't know the correct English term) a new bookmark, Netscape just freezes up, and all I can do is kill the process by hitting ctrl+alt+del to get to the task-manager.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Netscape and had my "old" 4.78-user-profile translated, but after that I could enter exactly one new bookmark and no more. :(

I also would like to move the profiles-location to another partition in such a way, that all new profiles end up in the new location.

    Can anybody help me???
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi KaWo,

On your Bookmark problem, I'm not sure what's going on. Try this and see if it helps:

    With Netscape closed:

Back up your Netscape 4.78 and your Netscape 6 User folders

Go to C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\yourusername and copy the bookmark.htm file

Paste it into the Netscape 6 Profile:
    C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\yourusername\xxxxxxxx.slt folder.

In the Netscape 6 Profile remove the bookmarks.html file and place it in a backup folder.

In the Netscape 6 Profile, rename the bookmark.htm file from your 4.78 Users folder to .... bookmarks.html.

Hopefully, if your Bookmarks file in Netscape 6 is corrupt, this will solve your problem.

On moving your User profile to another partition on your HD:

I did find this Netscape KB Article which might be helpful:

Setting User Profiles to a unique location

    Hi Ramona,

    thank you for your help.

I don't think the problem lies with my bookmark-file, as I had my "old" (4.78) file translated when I reinstalled Netscape 6.2 and it worked/works fine with 4.78

But perhaps there is some problem with it, that the older Netscape version cannot see or doesn't mind. ;)

I'll try by starting a new user with a new bookmark-file and have a look, if I can edit that correctly. If so, then I'll just have to recreate my bookmarks one by one. Might be a good way to sort them through. ;)

As to the KB-article, there's no registry-entry that fits the one listed in the article (HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|Netscape|Navigator), so I'm not sure, where to create the new key.

    Thanks again
    KaWo

    Hi Ramona,

I've just updated to Netscape 6.2.1 and that seems to have solved the problem. :D

When I tried to create a new bookmark-file with Netscape 6.2 by adding one bookmark after the other, I encountered the same problem as before. It seems that there might be a problem with that particular version.

    Greetings!

Move 6.x User Profile Dir to Network Server

but this is about NS 4.x, not about 6.x. Is there any way to set up NS 6.21 so the user profile info is stored on the LAN server (e.g. virtual drive U:\) instead of on the local PC?

Hello AngusSF, and welcome to the Forum!

A new thread would be in order as your problem is unique to KaWo's. Would you mind starting your own thread? Thanks!
