I was using netscape communitcator v4.79 which had 'mail notification' that would allow me to add it to my 'sysstem tray.' I also had it checking for mail every 10 minutes.
When I upgraded to v6.2.3 of netscape, I cant' put the mail pgm in my system try. When I put it in my start folder, it will open on my desktop.
How can I have this great feature back.

    Sorry, what is "pgm "?

Are you referring to short cut?
Just drag one from Start | Netscape 6 | Netscape Mail.
Mail Notification does work however, it won't use the default new mail sound you set in Windows.(There are some workaround/fixes, sorry don't have the link right now.)

    new mail notification

i tried the link for setting the new mail notification in netscape 7 as listed below by Ramona. I have netscape 4.7 and i have always had an icon on the communicator toolbar, and it always let me know when I had mail.

In netscape 7, it never tells me. I followed the instructions to set an icon in the windows (ME) systray but it has to be reopened evertime I log on to netscape. And I still have to tell it to look for mail.

    Please advise.

    Thanks

    Debbie Soll

again, i can't seem to get the instructions as listed above to work every time. It will work once netscape is opened and the icon is set in the systray, but if I log off and turn off my computer and log on again later, it needs to be reset each time.

    thanks

    Welcome to the Forum, Debbie!

    Hi Debbie,

First of all, I deleted your post in the NetscapeMail Thread. It is confusing for everyone when you double post. I have included that post to the above.

Netscape 7.0 Mail Notification only works if the Mail window is open. See this thread, for a report on Netscape 7 Mail.

I haven't yet tested the NSNotify with Netscape 7.0, but will do so, and post back the results. I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

    Catch ya' later,

    Ramona :D

    Hi broni,

Thanks for the feedback. I won't have to test it on Netscape 7.0 Final, since you have confirmed that it works. I know that it worked on Netscape 7.0 PR1.

    Ramona :D

    P.S.

    debbie

You might try copying these two files:
    Nsnotify.exe and nsmailui.dll from
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program

and paste both of them in
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape folder

    It shouldn't be necessary, however.

    Hi Donna,

    Open Windows Explorer
    Browse to:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape
    Scroll to nsnotify.exe
    Right Click
    Select: Create shortcut
The shortcut you created will be the last entry in the folder
    Right Click
    Select: Cut

    Browse to
    C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
Right click on the StartUp folder
    Select: Paste

Your NSNotify is now in your startup menu.
