Just installed Netscape 7.0 on one of my machines and 6.2.3 on another machine on my network. IE browses the 'net just fine; however, neither version of Netscape will bring up even one site. I keep getting an error that the site cannot be located, or words to that effect.

I have the same problem on another machine on this same network with Netscape 6.2.3, just installed.

I'm using a Linksys router for internet connection sharing, in case that might have a bearing on the problem.

I have done a clean install on both machines on the same network in that no version whatsoever of Netscape has ever been on either of these machines before the last couple of days.

Additional Information: I have a LinkSys router. I access the configuration page for the router at http://192.168.1.1. IE6 brings up this page just fine. Netscape gives the same error message for the router as it does for any other internet address:

"http://192.168.1.1 could not be found. Please check the address and try again "

There is no firewall software active on any machine on my network. One machine is running Windows 2000 Professional with all the available updates. The other is running Windows 98 with all available updates.

    I'm stumped.

    Hi Alex,

There are quite a few users experiencing the same problem as you. Unfortunately, I have yet to see a good "fix ".

Do you have Java installed? Here is a suggestion from one of the Champions, and also mentions NT:
Let us know if this helps, and I'll keep looking for more information.

Thanks for at least answering. I did uninstall Java and deleted all Java-related folders, both in the root of C, in the Windows folder and in the Program Files folder. I then went into the registry and deleted every entry that contained the word, Java. I rebooted and there was no change in performance.

This is really a shame. I was a die-hard Netscape user until less than a year ago when I was forced over to Internet Explorer. I really would like to get back to Netscape.

    Hi Alex,

Yes, I hear your frustration, but I sure would get rid of 6.2.3. That will assuredly double your problems.

You may want to follow the thread from which I took Jay's post:

    This is from today's posts:
There is another lengthy thread pertaining to networking and Netscape 7, which may also interest you:

I regret being so limited on information, and about the only resources available, with up to date information, are the Newsgroups.
