We are using an ERP javascript via our Netscape 4.7x browser. Sometimes but not always, the user will get a "Not Responding" to the current js page and the Netscape session will have to be ended to free up the workstation.

We have found that changing the resolution of the workstation display settings prevents this from happening. However, this is not a workable solution since we have to change the resolution from 800x600 to 1024X768 or above
making the screen icons much smaller and more difficult to read.

Why would this make a difference? Has anyone else experienced this problem.

Welcome to the Forum, Judy Consoli!

    Hi Judy,
I am totally unfamiliar with ERP, and somewhat illiterate when it comes to JavaScript. Is this software for Enterprise Resource Planning? That's what I came up with when Googling.

Are you using the JavaScript which came with 4.79, or have you installed a Sun Java Plugin? I have read that the Sun Java Plugin isn't that effective on 4.79. It is recommended, if you are having a problem, to use the built-in Java, not the plugin. It can be disabled in Edit | Preferences | Advanced

If you disable Java and Javascript before you call up the same
web site, does this stop it from freezing?

Check your HOSTS file for any unusual entries. Run your Spyware detector for good measure.

I wonder too if you have the most current drivers installed for the monitors, especially since changing the resolution solves the problem.

As more web developers adhere to the W3C standards, Netscape Communicator becomes more and more obsolete. Netscape 7.02 handles Java and JavaScript much better than Communicator. You might give some thought to upgrading.
