Mainly IE user, but have Netscape 4.61 and use it on occasion. When you right click on a link to open in a new window, Netscape always opens with a full window. Is there a way to make the new window open reduced? Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Jack,

When you open the maximized window, and then minimize the window... hold down the Shift key when closing. The next time you open the window, it will be minimized.

Post back if you continue to have probems.

    Hi Jack,

Holding down the shift key when you click on the "X" in the upper right corner, should ensure that the window opens in the new selected size.

Not sure what's going on with yours??

    Jack,
Some links will open (or change) its window size to full by JavaScript.

    For normal links:
If you right click a link, (and it opens as full,) resize that window to the size you want.
    Close that window, close Netscape.

Next time you start Netscape, the problem should be solved.

You might want to try Netscape 4.79 or 6.2.1 as Netscape 4.61 was released many years ago.

Well, I give up, I think... tried all suggestions, even downloaded and using 4.79, can't get a link to not open in full window. Maybe my setup? Kind of old, PentII 300mh 95b. Thanks again for your responses.

    Hi Jack,

Let's not give up yet. Your system configuration sounds fine, and I use 4.79 on an older Cyrix 166 MHz processor with 95b.

Let me get back to you after I do some more searching on your problem.

    Hi Jack,

    Just had a new thought.....

When you said you had tried File|Close+Shift, it reminded me that you can also click on the Netscape icon in the uppermost left hand corner of the Netscape windows. There you can select minimize and maximize.

    Select "Minimize "
    and then "Close "

Let us know if it works.

Well tried the icon thing too, no luck, did a search for netscape in the registry and looked at all kinds of entries but didn't see one that might apply to window size. Not a big deal, just has my interest now.

    Hi Jack,

Well, here is the solution, and frankly I am embarrassed that I didn't know this to begin with, as it is so simple.....

Right click the Netscape shortcut on your Desktop.

    Select Properties
    Click on the Shortcut tab
    Look for "Run "
Select "Minimized" from the drop down menu

Just shows to go you, that you're never too old to learn something new.

    Cheers!

Ramona, sorry must not have made my problem clear. When I open Netscape it opens in a full window which I would want. From there if I right click a link and choose "open in new window" the link always opens maximized. That's the window I was trying to get to open in a reduced size. IE works this way and was wondering if I could get Netscape to do the same. Sorry if I wasn't clear and again thanks for the effort. I'm still looking...

    Opening Link in New Window

    Jack,

Funny you would want to open a new link in Netscape as a normal (reduced size) window instead of maximized.

I'd rather have new windows open maximized in Internet Explorer like they do in Netscape, but then I'm a long-time Netscape user.

I guess it's just a matter of what you're used to.
