I have read a couple other posts with this same problems on other web sites however no one ever had a successful solution. I'm having a very frustrating problem installing my netgear ma311 wireless pci card. I upgraded me OS to WinXP Pro a couple days ago, from win2000 Pro. Ever since then my wireless card just simply will not work. I have tried uninstalling it and installing it again and this worked to no avail. Now i can not even uninstall the device, as it says "this device can not be uninstalled as it may be required to boot the computer" when i check the properties, there is no driver installed, even after i have installed the drivers. when i choose the driver to install manually when using device manager, it states "error: this name is already in use as a service or service display name" and the driver does not complete installation. This is annoying me to no end because now i can not even uninstall the device and try from scratch to re install it. i've followed the instructions in the booklet that cam with the device prior to this uninstalling issue and still nothing worked. if anyone has a possible solution i would greatly appreciate to hear from you!!!

ps- i have also tried uninstalling the device in safe mode, tried uninstalling with no services running at all, and checking the bios boot options for networking but still nothing has worked.

Have you checked with NetGear tech support to see if they are aware of issues?

Is the card on the list of approved hardware for XP? Some things work fine with 2K but not with XP and the situation will be worse for a while with XP SP2 since it forces devices to follow the rules and some older drivers were written in a sort of sloppy fashion.
