Good day Ramona... yep its me again.

Question. I often attach files to my email (usually job applications) and am constantly plaged (well more like irritated) by the attach file window settings. (The open file window has the same limitations)

I want to have it open bigger (need not be full screen, but at least full width) and to default to the detail file listing with the colum widths set to my needs. Where can I reset these default settings? I do not think it is anything intended to be user set, but maybe there are some def files some where I can modify? Yea I know... can't leave anything alone.

    Thanks again.

    Dave,

You should be able to adjust the Window size by grabbing the lower left corner and resizing. When you close the window hold down the Shift key as you are closing the window. The size should be retained as you have made adjustments.

You can resize columns the same way. Hold the cursor over the vertical lines in the column headers, and move the columns to your specification.

To permanently resize the Mail window would require a script in the prefs.js, but I will have to do a little research to find that script, if in fact it can be used in Netscape 7.2.

    Thanks and a comment

Thanks again. I didn't know about the shift hold. Will try it.

Been meaning to comment on an anomoly on this page/forum. Even though the "remember me" is checked... neither it or (it seems) the Netscape password manager is filling in the login fields. I have to manually enter each time. Thought you might like to know.

This web site is a life saver... my hat's off to you all. When I'm able (i.e. have work again) I'll likely become a contributing member. I do not like advertizing either.

    Dave,

This is the Admin's reply when users are unable to login:

You might have software that blocks the BBS cookie (this may include "privacy "-type software & firewalls like Zone Alarm).

Or the cookie was deleted, or is corrupted.

To clear the cookie, log out via this URL:

And then log in again by entering your username/password in the appropriate box near the bottom of the BBS home page:

In over 90% it's a firewall setting blocking the cookie.

Try disabling or reducing the security when you login and see if that helps.

    Hi,

I'm new here and I came across this thread while browsing for a solution of the problem that the settings of the Attach File window are not retained.

I had asked about this on one of the Mozilla newsgroups, and I was told it is a Windows problem, not a Mozilla problem.

I tried pressing Shift solution when closing the Attach File window, but it seems only the size is retained (which is retained anyway even without shift), but only for the current session. However, the view mode (i.e. I want "Details" is not retained at all).

I have been looking for a solution for this for some time - is there one?

    Thank you.

    Welcome to the Forum, HerbEppel!

    Herb,

I have no solution for you at the present time. The script I was remembering was for Netscape Communicator 4.7x Compose Window:
    user_pref( "mail.compose_window_rect ", "-6,0,802,571 ");

In Netscape 7.2 I have an idea that you can delve into one of the jar files and adjust the Attachments Window. Messenger.jar is the file that holds many of the attachment settings. To open the jar files, you must rename them to e.g., messenger.jar.zip, then unzip the file using WinZip, or whatever program you use for this purpose. Ensure that you backup the jar file before renaming, or opening...

The Netscape 7 Secure Newsgroup is an excellent place to ask about this type of UI editing. Chris Ilias, Mozilla Champion, is a whiz at CSS.

    Hi Ramona,

thanks for this. Yes, I 'know' Chris from the Mozilla/Firefox/Thunderbird newsgroups.

However, when I asked the question about the attachment window a while back, if I remember correctly I was told it was a Windows issue and couldn't really be influenced by Mozilla.

In any case, it isn't just the size I would like to change permanently, I would also like to be able to permanently set it to "Detail" view as opposed to the default "List" view.

    Thanks

It's been awhile since I used either Netscape or Mozilla, but the Thunderbird main window can be resized permanently the same way as the composition window, the message window, or the attachment window ... drag it to the desired location and size, then hold the Ctrl key (I've never heard of using the Shift key, Ramona) as you close the window. If memory serves me correctly, it worked the same way in Communicator, Netscape and Mozilla.

The fact that the attachment window (as well as other types of windows in Windows ... Open, Save, etc.) default to the List view has long been a pet peeve of mine, and I know of no way to change it. I've just learned to live with it.
