    I want to install Nero 9 Lite on my Windows 7 system and it won't install. After several emails with support over this, they now tell me that I should "uninstall any program that contains C++ in the name" and then install. Is there any problems uninstalling these programs? I assume that I can reinstall these, but I want to make sure before I uninstall something I shouldn't. These are the programs that I have:

    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL Update kb973923 - x64 8.0.50727.4053
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL Update kb973923 - x86 8.0.50727.4053
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64)
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 ATL Update kb973924 - x64 9.0.30729.17
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.0.30729.17
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.4148

    Thanks.

    Sorry for the delay in this. I tired uninstalling and I have 4 entries that will not uninstall. The 4 entries are:

    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64)
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.0.30729.17
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17

    I keep the message "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable ".

    Any thoughts on getting them uninstalled so that I can try to install Nero? Thanks.

    Hi I would like to weigh in here. Nero and Roxio have become very bloated over the years. If you like all the stuff they include fine but if all you want to do is burn then you should look at Ashampoo Burning Studio 9 or CdBurner XP which is very good. I also use from time to time Nero Ultra 6.6 which was the last good version I feel.

    There is also support for Record Now Max 4.5 which is also nice. All of these programs are light weight and do the necessary just right.

    Thanks flynempire. I'll take a look at them. Still wondering about my original problem though.

    Hi MinnesotaMike

    If you could tells us / share what jobs you use Nero for, many of us could provide 2 or 3 free alternatives for them needs. I would also guess these alternate program(s) would use less space on your drive when compared to Nero. I was a Nero fan for many years, but bloatware chased me away.

    I totally agree with DennisL Nero was the program until V 6.6. After that it is a bloated mess, so is Roxio.

    I want to clarify a few things. AShampoo is not free but you can get it for low cost. It is a suite but I think they also have the program standalone. Even the suite is only 85 Megabytes in size after install which is small.

    Please go here and visit: http://www2.ashampoo.com/webcache/html/1/product_2_2210___USD.htm

    It is compatible with Windows 7.

    CDBurner XP which is free can be found here: http://cdburnerxp.se/

    I use this program and I like it. It is also Win7 compatible.

    RecordNow Max 4.5 is an old program back from 03 or 04. It has like a cult following and people say it does 100% compliant burns, very accurate. RecordNow was made by Veritas, then Urologix bought it, then Sonic, Roxio, etc. It was never the same after 4.5. People still keep it up to date via the Pixie Engine. I have installed the program and found the latest Pixie Engine for that the time and it included support for my burner.

    The whole pixie engine is to support the latest burners even though the program is old. Nero 6.6 of course is old also. I don't think these will run under Win7 at all. What gets me is that Nero 9 works with Vista and I have read plus been told that if it runs under Vista it should work with 7 since they share most of the same Code Base.

    I am sorry about your problem. Hopefully one of the alternatives above can help you along like it has for me. I use all 4 programs, perhaps Dennis and others can tell you of others I don't know about.

    Mike,

    Thanks for your thoughts. I appreciate any and all help/suggestions.

    Dennis,

    Before switching to Windows 7 (some days I wonder why :( ), I had Nero on my XP system. What I used Nero for was copying music CDs, creating music CDs (which includes being able to pick the gap times between tracks), and making CD case cover. For me, it was a handy and easy to use program. I still have it on the XP system, but that is in the basement now. I would like to have something on my Win 7 system so I don't have to run around using different systems. Thanks.

    I don't know which version of Nero you were using on XP - I used 7 and it is working fine on Windows 7 x64.

    Pete,

    I was using version 6.3.1.26. No matter what I tried, it would not install on 7.

    Yeah that version 6 will not run on Win7. That version is several years old, in fact older than the 6.6.5 version I have.

    If you run Win7 Pro or Ultimate you have the option of running that XP Mode virtualization which is a copy of XP SP-3 running in virtual mode.

    You could try and see if the program works in there. This virtual XP is not an option for Win7 Home.

    Mike,

    I'm running Win 7 Home Premium. I guess I'll just run to my XP system if I need to use Nero. Inconvenient, not impossible. :rolleyes:
