looking for a site that sells for a reasonable price x64 xp pro.

my main machine giving me to many problems plus it can only go up to 2g memory. have another machine with extremely good components in it and it can go to 4g memory so i want to rebuild it with xp pro x64. does anyone have a good site they work with that sells this for a resonable price.

also should i get a full retail or is oem okay ???

You really don't want XP x64 - a dearth of drivers and no MS support. It was a stop gap 64 bit OS.

Why not download Windows 7 x64 when RC1 is released - around May 5th?

big reason for me sticking to xp is i am using eudora and have for 15 years since it was dos based and unfortunately there is no conversion out there anymore. in the old days outlook express had a conversion for eudora but they stopped that.

is windows 7 x64 better than xp x64 ??? was going to download that on one of my machines when its available but again am worried about eudora not working. i have 15 years of data in my eudora that i just cant afford to lose or even try and recreate from scratch in windows mail or anything else.

I cannot comment based on experience of either Vista x64 or Windows 7 x64 - I used XP x64 a long ways back, but not for long as drivers were the problem.

My best suggestion is put 4 gigs of memory into the other machine and load XP x32 - that will recognise/use ~3.3 - 3.5 gigs. x64 seems a lot of pain for little gain - + .5 Gb RAM?

yeah thats exactly what i will do. i will never build another machine using ecs boards. i have had nothing but problems with this machine ever since i built it 5 years ago. every blue screen you can think of ive had and yet every diagnostic ive run says the system is okay. going to take a shot gun when the other machine is up and running and use this one for target practice.

do you think i can use the xp pro cd on the other machine that i used on building this one ??? amazing how xp cd's are still quite expensive.

Installation will not be a problem obviously, but you will almost certainly have to activate over the phone and tell MS that you have blasted the other PC to the other side of tomorrow :)
