My pc with vista on it, accidentally, physically, got disconnected from the network. When reconnected it finds the internet, however it doesn't find the printer, nor does it see the network.
Do i need to resetup the entire network from the xp pc, in order to get this one back in the network?
    Thanks
    Mark

Can the Vista PC ping others on the network and vice-versa? If so check the Firewall.

Is the printer shared on an XP PC - if so you won't see it until the PC reappears. If it's a networked printer again can you ping it's IP address.

    Open a command prompt -
(XP) Start - Run - cmd - enter
(Vista) Start - Search -cmd - enter

Then type Ping 192.168.***.*** TYPE FULL IP ADDRESS NOT THE ASTERIXS

This sends packets of data to the devices in question, so if the ip address of the printer is 192.168.1.100, at the command prompt you type ping 192.168.1.100

    You should receive 4 replies.

Try test by pinging your router which you know works because you can connect to the internet. To find your router ip address....

At the command prompt as above type ipconfig Enter which will display your own Ip address, subnet and gateway. So you try pinging the gateway address.

In succession you can then ping other pc's and the printer (unless it's a shared printer). If it's a network printer then you should be able to print the deails of the network settings of the printer from the screen display or buttons on the printer itself.
